Lightning Bolt

By Tiggurix, in Talisman Rules Questions

I have some questions regarding the Highlands spell Lightning Bolt. It tells you that you may cast it at any time to make any character be "stunned" for the rest of the turn, disabling them from doing anything aside from countering the spell if they should have a Counterspell.

My first question then: If you cast this spell on a character about to engage in battle with an enemy or another character, what would happen? Would they automatically lose, seeing as they wouldn't be able to do anything?

I don't think this Spell is different from an Immobility Spell that can be cast at any time. It's a second edition Immobility (cast as required).

If a Character doesn't negate Lightning Bolt he ends his Turn immediately.

what if it my turn and i attack another character. as combat begins, can i use it against them to keep them from rolling dice?

Even though the Lightning Bolt Spell may be cast at any time, it would not prevent that character from rolling a die in battle or psychic combat, as it is not that character's turn. I would suggest only casting a Lightning Bolt Spell during a character's turn!

Ok, thanks everyone! happy.gif

player A's turn land on creature combat ensues player B casts lightning bolt on player A, player A now in combat is stunned and can not do anything does not get to roll in combat creature rolls as normal compare two strength scores highest wins player A cant use any items to prevent life or reward taking and if player A wins player a cant chose a reward or take a life as that is "doing something"

Punctuation please. Your post gave me an headache.

Anyway, this "stunned" status where you can attack but you can 't roll or take a reward, is something unheard of in Talisman (and probabily preposterous)

Sorry is this better?

player A's turn land on creature combat ensues

player B casts lightning bolt on player A,

player A now in combat is stunned and can not do anything does not get to roll in combat

creature rolls as normal compare two strength scores highest wins

player A cant use any items to prevent life or reward taking

and if player A wins player a cant chose a reward or take a life as that is "doing something

well your not fighting, just getting beat up on your stunned not fighting back, hence no combat roll.

also, as you are stunned, you cant win

nor use any items to prevent the other guy from winning should his combat score is higher than your strength

it was a little easier to understand that time.

I would guess, as the spell picture shows, that if another character intends to encounter you after his move, you may cast Lightning bolt to prevent him to and end his turn.

You would be allowed to cast it like every other spell saying : "when you are about to engage in battle or psychic combat", not during nor after in order to prevent him to take his reward.

I believe you would not be allowed to cast it after another character has defeated the Lord of darkness with a 8+ score in order to prevent him being teleported to the Crown of command.

Unless Lightning bolt also may be used with the following intentions ?? >> in order to consider the battle or psychic combat a stand-off, Simulacrum like >> you realize you are about to be defeated then you cast Lightning bolt to consider it a stand-off instead ?

>> What do you guys think about this ?

But I guess this explaination says it all ? https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/850520/lightning-bolt-what
