Release Delay?

By N0-1_H3r3, in Deathwatch

I've just heard from a friend at my local games store (who tends to be quite good for picking up on this sort of info) that Deathwatch may be delayed in Europe, due to FFG selling out of it at GenCon and redirecting the shipment to Europe to sell them in the US instead. This means that European gamers won't get the book until October, once it's been reprinted.

All this is laden with a hefty 'apparently', but if it's true, then I'm frankly disappointed with FFG... I would have thought they'd have expected this and accounted for it after the same thing happened with Rogue Trader last year.

They know they'll sell their books anyway.

Where as I heard from Leisure Games that they are meant to be getting their copies of the game in early/mid September preocupado.gif So not sure which is correct or not.

While I'm sure they knew that this was coming, there isn't much they can do about it. They are much better printing too few copies than too many - if they overestimate they'll end up with a very big stack of books that take up costly warehouse space. Pretty common problem with new releases of popular games.

Redirecting a shipment sounds like it would be expensive, so it would only make sense if it will sell for a lot more in the US (after exchange rates) than it will in Europe.

That, however, assumes that the books had already been shipped, when I'm fairly sure, most likely, the books that were planned to be sent to Europe were instead kept in the US rather than shipped to the EU.

If true, it won't endear FFG to me, that's for sure. But as I have said, it's their company I won't tell them how to run it. However as a customer I personally am swift and fairly consequential about my actions. :-)

Of course, if it was a PDF... sorpresa.gif

Has someone asked Ross et al . about this? Perhaps get them to post? I'm sure that fans would be more bothered by not knowing then knowing. Might be wrong on that since nerdrage is unpredictable, but there you have it.

Remember, though, that Gencon has only just finished. They're probably getting back to work rather than checking the forums.

Weeelll... They tend to be a bit quiet unless posting "news," which is perfectly understandable given how (presumably) busy they are. Thus a prod in the right direction might be worth it... gran_risa.gif

Well, I'm working with the devs on something at the moment, and I've been told that they aren't back to the office until Wednesday due to Gencon, so I doubt they'll be in a position to reply for a few days, probably next week, though yea, sending off an e-mail might be worth it happy.gif

This really is the slow boat from china! Seriously the wait has been too much, I check the upcoming section every day. Sometimes twice. I think that I am now developing some psychosymantic pain from the unendurable wait. It would be better if they did not announce it as early as they do.

Please dont send our copies of Grim Dark Space Marines to the US of A

<begs and offers 'favours' or bribes......>

I hope this question gets an answer soon, as it will determine who and where I order the book from (no sense in waiting for it to get to Australian retailers...).

And so begins the Nerd Rage...

I'm fairly calm though. happy.gif Rage is pointless anyway. It's all a matter of perception of whether I am being respected as a customer or not. And if I think I am not, I'll vote with my wallet.

Apart from that I don't share the impatience of some of the members here. I can wait. It's just an RPG after all.

The manager of my local store just got back from GenCon and he claims he was told by FFG that the regular edition would be delayed until the collectors edition was ready for shipping. I trust the guy but I also take anything that isn't an official announcement with a grain of salt.

Great, so now we're all held hostage by the bling crowd. That's just wonderful. I'd like to think FFG would be a bit more on the ball with this.

This would be the beginnings of nerd rage, not hyperbole. Nothing personal darknite.

What is going to start is the same thing that happened last year with Rogue Trader. People are going to start getting upset that they don't have the book that they think was promised them, when they think they should have it, because someone else already has it, because X said it would be out in August.

Well, it is out in August. It's just not in everyone's hands. If anyone out there thinks they so desperately need the book now check ebay. Otherwise, I just wish people would suck it up, learn to be patient, and deal with the fact that the books probably won't be widely available until mid September.

Oh, I have no problem with being diagnosed with nerd rage in this case. If it's true. I haven't even heard of a definitive release date so it's hard to get much steam rolling. But the concept that the VAST majority of folks who the game have to wait for a small number of folks who want window dressing gets my goat. Hope it's not true as it would lower my (probably overinflated) opinion of FFG.

Interestingly, the Upcoming section and the Products sections of the Deathwatch releases are conflicting.

The upcoming products list details Deathwatch as still "on the boat" which puts it somewhere between 6-8 weeks from arrival. Of course, it's been "On the boat" for 6-8 weeks already.

The Product listings on the Deathwatch webpage shows both the Core Book and the GM Screen as Available Soon, which firmly puts it 1-2 weeks from arrival in the stores.

I'm hoping the product listing is correct for the U.S.. Sorry to hear about the delay in Europe. Better planning was apparently needed on FFG's part.

I don't know where your friend got his information from but it is completely false. The three hundred copies we shipped to Gen Con were planned to sell out and sent to the the show to spark interest and excitement in the book and has nothing to do with the thousands of books heading to Europe for sale, nothing has changed or been diverted because of Gen Con. Stay tuned to the web site for details as we get closer to the launch of this awesome tome.

Well, I guess that answers that then! lengua.gif

Ahhh, FFG comes through again... aplauso.gif

Good to here that there's nothing wrong, but...........

Shipping each copy with a Dead thing in it, is gross...lol

i think you meant "Tome", not "Tomb" as in "Coffin", FFGSteve.
