Stepping on a Gate?

By mmotomb, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I'm confused about a few things..

1. When I move in a square with an open gate on it; I should go directly to the correspond other world on the board? (which means even if there's a monster guarding the gate, I will not fight it?)

2. If there was another player in the first section of that other world then I move to the second part of it... what if there were 2 players filling both spaces? If I am not able to get sucked in the other world because it is occupied by 2 other players then I can seal it? if yes, then wouldn't that be a great strategy to seal gates in 3 player games? (what happens to the investigators that are inside?)

3. Correct me if I'm wrong.. if I get sucked into a gate my movement phase ends.. then in the other world encounters I draw the other world cards and if I succeed I move to the next room and my turn ends. Then the next movement phase I CANNOT move because I'm inside the gate right? so I wait for the other world encounters to draw yet another card and if I succeed I go back to the gate where I can seal it the NEXT movement phase? (sounds confusing to me :P)

1. You are mixing up your phases. In the Movement Phase, you move to a location with a gate. If there is no monster there, you are free to move out if you want if you have extra movement points (in case someone else is there and you want to trade items). If there is a monster there, and you end your turn there, then you must deal with the monster. The gate does not do anything in the Movement Phase or effect you in any way. The Arkham Encounter Phase is when you get sucked into the gate (instead of having an encounter). Then the Other World Encounter Phase happens and you have an OW encounter.

2. Any number of players can be in an other world location. If you are on a gate during the Arkham Encounter Phase, then you WILL get sucked in, no matter how many other players are in there already. Also, a player may not close or seal a gate unless they can get an explored token. The only way to get a token is to go into a gate, then come out of the gate (by going through the two spaces and leaving, or by returning early if an encounter says to). Once they leave the OW, they get the token. This token allows them to stay in a location with a gate and not get sucked in. It also lets them attempt to close/seal a gate during the Arkham Encounter Phase. If they leave that location before gate is closed or sealed, then they lose the explored token and must get sucked through the gate again before they re-earn the token and are allowed to close/seal. Having someone on each spot in an outer word DOES NOT let a third player close a gate. Also, if a player tries to leave an OW and there is no gate to return to Arkham, then they are lost in time and space.

3. As I said before, you do not get sucked into a gate on the movement phase. Here is how it will work:

Turn 1 - Phase 2: Movement - Move to location with gate, deal with monsters on that spot if there are any.
Phase 3: Arkham Encounters - Get sucked through gate, move to first location in other world.
Phase 4: Other World Encounters - Have an OW encounter.

Turn 2 - Phase 2: Movement - Move to second location in other world.
Phase 4: Other World Encounters - Have an OW encounter.

Turn 3 - Phase 2: Movement - Leave OW and move to matching OW gate in Arkham (can be a different location then you entered as long as it matches the OW you were in). May ignore monsters in that location for the turn you return to Arkham ONLY. Get an explored token.
Phase 3: Arkham Encounters - Attempt to close/seal the gate.

The next turn you must deal with monsters during movement per the normal rules if they were ignored when you came out of the gate.

You may want to reread the instruction manual, especially what you can and can't do during each of the 5 phases of a turn. As long as you do each phase in order, you will have a much easier time keeping track of how the game plays out.

Thanks Doom Turtle that was exactly what I was looking for. Now everything make sense.

Just one confusion point, I don't know where I read that but what I know is you cannot have more than one player in one of the two parts of a specific OW spaces? instead you move them to the next OW space. Is this true? (if it is, then that means the second player can get out of the gate exploring only the other half of the OW).

That isn't true, you can have more than 1 investigator in an Other World area.

Tox is correct. That has never been the case. I have no idea where you would have read that.
