Talisman: The Sacred Pool Sneak Peek on Talisman Island

By Nemomon, in Talisman

Hello there!

Gen Con is gone, everyone are coming back to their houses. Jon New from Talisman Island in the meantime decided to make a first Sneak Peek from Sacred Pool expansion. On his site we can see Rapida.... I mean Firemane drawn by Christopher Burdett.

Go and watch it!

Nice! happy.gif And you're right, it really does remind me a lot of Rapidash! gran_risa.gif

Thanks for the heads up, any tidbit is of interest.

The artwork from the Firemane looks nice gran_risa.gif

Firemane looks like My Little Pony.

Personally I don't like the artwork but then all art is subjective.

I have just posted another piece of artwork from The Sacred Pool expansion for the Revised 4th Edition of Talisman over at Talisman Island!

I hope you like it!

****, I thought you knew...

I do, but I am not permitted to release the information. Sorry.

Ell.

That seems to be in line with what we already know about the expansion being themed on alignment.

Something for the Neutrals...?

I sort of doubt something "profane" would be rigged for "Neutral". It's more likely for Evil... or who knows, maybe anyone can pick it up but it then causes and alignment shift. That would be new.

My interpretation of profane was "without religion".

In Talisman, I regard Evil as having it's own (directly opposite) religion to those of Good and Neutral having no religion.

I am in danger of thinking about this too much now.

I'll think you will find that "profane" does not refer to neutrality!

I knew you did :), and I gathered you would not be permitted but one has to try...

When is the Sacred Pool scheduled for release?

When was the Highland first announced and I think it said 'this Spring' but what month did it actually appear? It till help me know when Sacred Pool is suppose to ship and when it might actually ship?

Do you think it will be a viable Christmas present? (ie. will it come out this Fall and if so late Fall (November) or early Winder (December)? Or shall it come out fairly soon like September or October?

Someone mentioned a big box is next after that. Does that mean this next Spring. I'm asking in the past since Talisman revised was announced how regularly did the Reaper, Frost March, Dungeon get released? Has it been 2 products a year or slower?

Is the ultimately plan you think to do 2 more big boxes and 1 or 2 smaller ones?

Just curious. If so does that means we have seen about half the game released other than the main game itself?

I know profane does not mean neutrality per-se. I take profane to mean without religion, not without "Good" religion.

1. characterized by irreverence or contempt for god or sacred principles or things; irreligious.
2. not devoted to holy or religious purposes; unconsecrated; secular ( opposed to sacred).
3. unholy; heathen; pagan: profane rites.
4. not initiated into religious rites or mysteries, as persons.
5. common or vulgar.

late 14c., from L. profanare "to desecrate," from profanus "unholy, not consecrated," from pro fano "not admitted into the temple (with the initiates)," lit. "out in front of the temple," from pro- "before" (see pro-) + fano, ablative of fanum "temple." The adj. is attested from late 15c.; originally "un-ecclesiastical, secular;" sense of "unholy, polluted" is recorded from c.1500.

As I was saying, it depends what you regard as religious in the Talisman context. There is no real concept of Religion as such within Talisman, the closest being Alignment.

It then depends upon wether you regard Religion to be only an attribute of a "Good Alignment" - in that you regard that there is only one God and that those of a Good alignment follow this God and therefore are the only Religious.

Therefore those of Evil alignment would be considered profane.

An alternative standpoint is that those of Evil Alignment are equally religious but to a different deity that is opposed to the those of Good Alignment,

One could point at the Dark Cultist directly as an example of an Evil Religious character.

In this case, Evil cannot be considered profane and only those of a Neutral Alignment who have no care for either religion are considered profane.

Unless of course you also maintain that there is a third section of deities that those of Neutral alignment worship in which case no player is profane.

Maybe this concept is introduced in the Sacred Pools but with the game as it is there seems little evidence so far and Neutral is perceived as having "no alignment" or "no religion"

Dammit, you made me think about this too much now. Of course, I could be talking complete BS - there are some here far more qualified than I to speak of these matters.

I think I saw a picture by TI from GenCon that Sacred Pools is slated for a release in the "Fall"

If not, then maybe it was Autumn. gran_risa.gif

Simple answer... at the Temple, everyone gets to pray in Talisman, therefor... At the Graveyard, Evil gets to pray instead of invoke, therefore... and its possible we may as yet see something for Neutral (but I'm not holding my breath on that one).

So, if all alignments get to pray, to whom are they praying in the generic temple that accepts all alignments or in the Graveyard? gui%C3%B1o.gif

Probably too much thought for a game that doesn't have much though behind its Alignment. I'll still bet that object will lean towards evil.

I will disappointed if it is an Evil artifact but it may well be so.

If Sacred Pools is indeed going to advance the idea of Neutral to be a more meaningful position other than "Not Good and Not Evil"

then maybe the Profane Relic could render the owner without ANY alignment.

Here is my version of the card...

While you own the Profane Relic you always have at least one Fate but it's influence causes you to have no alignment.

You may not pray at any time and are immune to the Inquisitor

Note: I suspect there will be an Inquisitor-type character who can have any alignment and affect players of a different alignment.

You're probably right about the Inquisitor (as from the 2E Dungeon), though possibly it may have some 4ER tweaks.

Just read the release date: November, the specific date was Nov 14 but that means FFG will probably start selling in late October or Nov (first week) as it takes time to ship to retailers.

To answer my own questions:

It is a good christmas gift as it will be released in time.

Looks like it has some type of death or underworld knight and since the set comes with horses it must mean the knights have access to a horse (just a guess)

Probably this replaces a chaos warrior type character and questing knight. That looks like a fae queen of sometype and some dude who is a caster type.

Here's a thought: maybe they are Master Characters, that your character becomes: one good, one evil, one neutral and one that is an Any alignment type you can pick but once you do it stays the same. Something like that.

Just a guess though

Considering that many of the 'other' Talisman 2nd are from other lands like Njinja, Zulu, Saracen, etc. perhaps they will be an Expansion called Talisman World where you play a traveler.
