Hello there.. As a fairly new player, i have a little question.. Hope its not TO noobish...

In the rules book, it states that a duplicate of a unique card can save it from "being killed, discarded or returned to hand" "as a triggered RESPONSE effect"

does this mean that if the character is killed during a challenge, then a duplicate does not help?? Or does it count as a "life"??

The dupe is a "save life". Not considered an attachement. When the character with dupe would killed/discarded/returned to hand you can discard dupe to prevent those effect.

Triggered effect is considered each word bold you have into cards (ie: response, any phace, marshalling etc). It means effect that "you can activate or not".

They differ in this from passive effect that are mandatory to activate (IE Rorge)

Remember that any phase (Marshalling, Plot) triggered effect can only be activated in player actions windows (look at AGOT FAQ for flow schema) of the respective phase (any, marshalling, plot).

When a char is killed (for example by valar) or discarded (for example by westeros bleeds) you can only activate "response" triggered to prevent that happening (with for example rise from the sea for kill and hand's judgement for bleeds).

A quick follow up question.. When using Shaggy Dog (LoW) to reduce attackers power, can i use multiple direwolves to f.eks reduse a 4 str attack to a 0 str?

And am i able to use f.eks Grey Wind (LoW) as one of those direwolves, even though he is an attachment?

yes! you can also use nymeria attach to lowe str... all cards with direwolf trait. You can also use old nan to give eddard stark direwolf trait and then kneel eddard (also if it seems not a wonderful move :-))

And yes, you can use Shaggydog's ability more than once as long as you can pay by kneeling a Direwolf card (just remember that every time you use this ability it's separate action - opponent may do something between).
