counterspell

By ordeal, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hi, yesterday I played talisman with a few friends, and everyone of us was playing the game for the first time, so basically a bunch of noobs.

Now for the question, which is maybe stupid, but still i want to know.

Situation : It's another players turn. He wants to attack me. I hold a Counterspell card in my hand. Can I use the counterspell, altough no spell was cast, so I cycle spell card, with a chance to get one more useful in battle? Or the counterspell must have an actual target (casted spell) which it can counter? We had kinda huge argument over this :) thx

All spells need a legal target to cast. So Counterspell can only be used when someone (including you) casts a spell. Healing can only be cast at a char who has lost lives. And so on.

Also note that if another player attacks you and casts a spell (say Psionic Blast), you counterspell, you're out of spell-casting for the combat, even if you have or draw more spells immediately, as it's not your turn, you're limited to just 1 spell. But your opponent could still cast up to 2 spells if he started with 3 Spells that turn (even more with certain Treasure).

does that mean that i cant use healing when im on full HP? that was part of the discussion too

Correct. You cannot cast Healing on yourself or another character if the target already has his full life value!
