What do you do if you have 4+ players?

By Spivo, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I ordered the Core set, but seeing a lot of places that it seems to "only" surport 3 players (and a GM of course).

Does the expansions (GM, Adventures kit) expand this? Or is it easy to have 4 players even with Core set only?

The adventurer's kit adds enough cards for an additional player, as will the Player's Vault out in a few months (exact release date unknown). The Adventurer's kit also adds new careers and actions.

If you don't want to buy the extra kit then you can always photocopy some of the cards.

Playing with more than 3 players is not really a problem. Some players will need to share some of the basic action a cards but that is the only real issue. You could photocopy a set as mentioned before but my players were happy just to keep the cards in between them and share them. They should have just put four or five copies of all of the standard action cards in the core set. For the price of 14 small cards they could have removed this impression that the core set was really limiting.

Having said all of that I must admit that I now have 6 players and 2 copies of the core set and it does make it useful to have multiple copies of all of the talent, career, and action cards. But I only brought the second set because I found a copy for £36/$50.

A bigger issue than the cards, however, are the dice. This game often uses large dicepools and having to pass pretty much the entire dice set to each player in turn would get annoying. I'm playing with 6 people total (GM + 5 players), we usually have 2 or three whole dice sets (three of us have the core) at the table, which allows us to share them nicely. If you have more than three players at the table I'd suggest trying to get your hands on more dice.

As Fluffy and MacD21 said, you can play with more than 3 players, you'll just need to share some things like dice and some of the cards. Of course, you can buy the Adventurers Toolkit and some dice packs, which will help alleviate this as well.

Just like D&D: Each player really needs his own set of dice. We shared for a few sessions, but eventually broke down and everybody pitched in for a few more sets. Now we have enough dice for each pair of players to share. For starters, you're all just figuring out the game so it's best to roll them all out in the open for that session anyways.

Otherwise, you have two choices for increasing the milage of your game for more players:

1. Buy another boxed set for $52 on amazon. You'll have all the dice you'll ever need and enough cards to go around.

or

2. Copy the cards you need somehow. I'd recommend THIS for the standard actions for all your players instead of the cards anyways.

I have four players in my group, but one of them bought the Adventurer Kit. I'm thinking about getting the iPhone dice app to help with the dice problems.
