Super huge detailed map of The Old World

By Gitzman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Dudes,

I've just posted an update to the Map. The map now includes a revamp of the WFRP3 locations added with the new books such as Karak Azgaraz, Stormdorf and the associated rivers. The locations are just south of Altdorf and match up pretty well to what is described in the maps and descriptions of the WFRP3 books.

Use the same download link as before or visit the site directly here.

Dudes,

I just reposted a more efficient version of the file, reducing the file size by an additional 15-20%. Hopefully this will increase performance while viewing in Adobe Reader.

Other graphic tweaks and drawing errors have been corrected as well, specifically around the Reikland area. (broken roads, rivers, tree lines, etc.)

Very nice! I think your map is the most gorgeous definitive map in existence. And I will be using it in my WHFR games. I really don't mean to add to your workload, but have you ever given thought to putting Castle Drachenfels on the map? Or was this done on perpose? It is, afterall, one of the most notorious and famous castle in the Empire. Just asking because our players just finished the 1st ed adventure "Castle Drachenfels" and the y may be wondering where it went to...Keep up the amazing work!

Drakenfels must have been one of those 'casualties' i was talking about =). I'll be sure to add it back in there. Was not intentional, leaving it out, probably was on the border of two maps and got lost in the merge.

Update to follow some time soon.

Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You rock!

As long as Rottfurt is still in the Emporer's lands we're all good over here ;)

Lovely, lovely work. Thanks so much for putting in the time! I think I may take DagobahDave's advice about having it printed up. In fact, I may have two printed up. I think I need one where I work. ;)

Gorgeous, amazing, spectacular work, Gitzman. I'm delighted to have it on my computer.

If anybody manages to get a print of it, please post your approach. This needs to go up on my gameroom wall!

Actually one of the dudes earlier in the thread posted a way to print it up. Aside from that format, Kinkos can usually do a wide format print job up to 4 or maybe even 6 feet wide. The map is roughly 60" wide and 55" or so tall.

I really love the map happy.gif

If I were to say anything, it would be that the towns south of the Empire are represented by bigger houses. I'm guessing it's due to several maps pieced together, so not much to do about it. But my players did ask if they were bigger cities.

Your map is combined from the works of Black Spectrum maps (meaning Andreas Blicher), right? And Blichers work is basicly based on the works of Mad Alfred. Now, Blichers map were done about time of WFRP2, but Mad Alfreds maps WFRP1 time. During WFRP1 there were limited amount of sources compared to current date and version. Mad Alfred did HUGE and great job detailing the world back in the day, when maps were so limited... BUT the Warhammer world has changed ALOT since - And WFRP3 has bring even more changes and new places. Good example - Just check Kislev and compare the "Realm of the Ice Queen" (WFRP2) maps...

Here's lates from Andy, which details Reikland with these WFRP3 places (first draft, and might need little adjustment): Hapimeses Gallery - Southern Reikland

www.WFRP.it I think compined Empire maps first time and after that there was even colored version about this compo. But I dont know are those available anywhere anymore...

Yeah, that seamless, coloured map was from 2006 or 2007 and came in at 39 meg or 25 megs, depending on the size you wanted. It too combined all the Blicher maps into one cohesive work. It was also hosted on http://pagesperso-orange.fr/Tolk.Panda/pictures/carteempirecolor.jpg.

Other than adding stromdorf and the like, is this map any different than the 'carteempire' map?

Thats a great map, looks like we had similar ideas.

The main differences between the two at a quick glance are that the map you directed us to is only of The Empire, and is nicely colored.

The map I compiled is of the entire Old World and includes Tilea, Estalia, Bretonnia, Kislev, Albion, Sartosa, the Border Princes and a few other bits.

Regarding the different sizes of the cities when looking out of The Empire, that is due to different scaling of the maps and was largely unavoidable. They are not actually larger cities, just larger images of cities =)

Yeah, I figured so, but my players wondered :)

Still very very nice work!

ah excellent work

I noticed the infamous town of Kreutzhofen from the excellent Death`s Dark shadow (1st edition). My favourite town of all time, with all of the houses maped out all npcs with full profiles and some interesting visitors.

And that is impressive that its on your map considering GW and BL habit of leaving out pretty much everything made by Flame Publication. After all they made some decent material for good old warhammer including Doomstones.

good work happy.gif

Genious work dude, job well done.

Felt like pointing out the mess in the "Moot, Averland, Stirland" Area, Running a few sessions in that area at the moment, and some of the names of specifik towns have been erased or otherwise removed.

More specifik it's the following towns - Schramleben, Pappenheim and Sigmaringen, along the border. And if you look around Sylvania the name of Swartzhafen is missing :)

Just wanted to point it out.. still an amazing job, thought of doing the same when I found the same maps... It does indeed look like a puzzle just begging to be put together :)

Thanks for the comments on the missing cities/locations. Like you mentioned in your post, the maps were begging to be put together like a puzzle, but like any puzzle, not every piece fits as nicely as you might hope and that was certainly the case here. There were several 'casualties of construction'. Too many in some cases to keep track of and i've been trying to put them back in one at a time as i find them (or people let me know).

So... I'll add those cities to the Moot area in the next release.

Thanks so much for the great feedback!

Game on guys!

Also, check out all the new maps and MapTools content for WFRP3 at Gitzman's Gallery when you get a chance.

Dudes,

I've just posted an update to the map taking into account the cities mentioned above and good old Castle Drachenfels which was requested earlier. I also took the opportunity to clean up a few graphics here and there and add a few Bretonnian cities/forts which i found missing.

As always, the most current map is available at Gitzmans Gallery in the WFRP Maps section.

Sounds really cool. I tried this a while back after I saw the Combined Empire map that was floating around a while back. Some line up nearly perfectly...some take a little editing but fit well. But some...I had a really ugly time trying to get Bretonnia to line up with neighboring countries and eventually dropped it to work on other things. Glad to hear someone had success. I'd be interested in the big 350MB version as well, storage isn't an issue for me.

Checked it out, looks great couple comments though...

fix the river near Talabheim...I realize this is on the border it looks really weird.

Add a scale. Maps need a North Arrow, and a scale. The 25MB empire/Kislev map had one, and I think its correct for the maps.

Great points,

I'll fix the river in the next release.

Regarding the scale. I cannot do this for a few reasons...

  1. Within the empire, things are reasonably accurate and most maps were done with the same scale (though not all of them).
  2. Outside the empire several different scale maps were used, and while they match up nicely in the finished product, the accuracy for scaling is pretty poor.

So, i'd prefer to leave scales out for now and just use the map as a rough layout of The Olde World.

But, i'll look into it and see if i can find a way to make it work, or at least put something in that gets close.

Check back soon for the updated map at www.GitzmansGallery.com

Dudes,

An update to the map has been posted with all requests from above incorporated (and a few others).

It is available for download at Gitzman's Gallery: Map Page

Thanks for the amazing map(s) Gitzman, really appreciate that you put all this time and effort for them.

Kind of OT but is there any way to find a detailed map of Mordheim? The one in your list (as every other floating the net) is low res.

I have seen only one HQ map and that's in French and with big parchments obscuring a lot of the map's detail.

Please let me know.

Aximand.

I have not seen another map of Mordheim that was better quality unless one were to scan one out of a book, or perhaps a poster that was generated back when the game launched (which i think did exist).

On the other hand, i have posted the giant map in a google maps viewer on the page which is super cool. check it out =)
