Best scenarios from the basic game??

By AegisGrimm, in Tide of Iron

Hi all, I finally got to get into Tide of Iron, as I just got it for my father for Christmas!

Thing is, I hear that many of the scenarios from the basic game are notoriously unbalanced, especially for introducing a new player (I am an avid wargamer, but he isn't as much- though he's a big fan of Panzer General for the PC). Which ones are the best of them? I've looked here and on the old forums, but I can't find a good diffinitive listing.

I already have downloaded both new player scenarios (infantry/ vehicle), and Ormel Farm , so we can learn the basics, but I figure once we've got the rules down better, I'll get into the book one and more of the ones on the site.

Honestly I think they're all worth playing. Many of them seem to really favor the americans for the most part but I tend like playing the germans anyway for the challenge of trying to win anyway.

I've played all of them except Siegfried Assault.

I liked Stavelot Express a lot because it was a very close game (26-23 for the US).

I also liked Liberation. I've spent a lot of time on this scenario. Played it twice (once each side) but still see no way to win with the Germans.

Yes, a lot of the scenarios are unbalanced, but not as unbalanced as you might think in the beginning.

The way to win with the germans is to issue an immediate v2 strike at the point they are about to use. As there are no current rules to simulate this, I use the house rule of yelling for the dog. Utter devestation.

Seriously though, the germans can win liberation if the german player gets EVERYTHING right. And I mean everything.
