A couple of questions after our first games

By JestorCT, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hey guys and gals,

My group just started playing AGoT and, after the first couple of games, we had some questions on some interactions.

1. Drumbeater (and similar effects) - The text says that it happens in the challenges phase. Do I have to kneel the Drumbeater before I know I am going to win or can I wait until I win by 4 in order to kneel him? Other cards like the Bowmen which kneel to give 2 strength to a challenge, can they be kneeled after defenders are declared?

2. Can not be saved - If I have a duplicate attached to a card, can that be used to thwart an effect that removes a character with the "can not be saved" text?

3. others: - Do plots with this keyword only effect your opponents? We assumed it did but other plots specifically state "opponents" which caused some minor confusion.

4. Text Box - Several cards "empty" the text box. What exactly does this effect?

Thanks!

Read FAQ (get it on support page)- especially look at pages 17-19. It will help you a lot.

You can play above cards only in player action windows (see flowcharts FAQ, page 19).

No. "Cannot" forbids you to save, and duplicate is a save response.

The text box include: all of the text on a card including traits, keywords and abilities, plus gold, influence, and initiative modifiers.

BTW check link in my signature - there are some comments there which can help you in future. Of course they don't answer all questions, so you can always find help here.

Thanks for the responses! My main question on the question you answered above is do they keep thier challenge symbols? We assumed so and, by your clarification, it seems like it, I just wanted to make sure :)

Yes, strength and challenge icons (plus title and gold cost, I suppose) are outside of the text box. (This is stated explicitly in the FAQ (#3.9), if you are wondering how we know this).

Welcome to the game, from a fellow Connecticut player, assuming that's what your title is referring to : )

Thanks for the answer :) I didn't realize that anyone in CT was playing the game. I looked around the local game stores and no one was carrying it so I figured it wasn't getting played. We usually play games in the Naugatuck or Woodbury area. If you are ever interested in getting in a game let me know (my email address is my username at yahoo.com). We are still playing with the preconstructed decks to learn the game but I think a couple of other guys in our gaming group are going to buy into it, it's been alot of fun playing so far :)
