I've been reading posts about the expansion to War of the Ring.I can say I played the game lots of times and it's my favorite game so far
.I read the new elements that the expansion adds to the base game. What are your opinions about this expansion?I mean 60$ is quite some money for me.I want to be sure that this is worth it.Pros and cons are welcomed
.Oh and from what I read, when adding the expansion elements to the base game, when you use the "Ents awaken cards",how does this exactly works now?I mean,do you still get to roll 3 dice and hit with a result of 4+,or just do the "move and attack thing" with the ents miniatures..?(I believe rolling 5 dice hitting on 5+ and eliminating an ent figure from Fangorn)
Battles of the Third age - a must?
The expansion adds a lot to the game. I recommend it. The Ent cards in the expansion allow you to move and attack with the Ent faction rather than directly attack Orthanc.

I like it and consider it a worthwhile expansion.
- The inclusion of the Balrog and Galadriel are quite nice and often see play
- I have had limited success with the hunting witchking, so it doesn't tend to get used
- The ents faction is very nice ... you build up ents in Fangorn every time the Voice of Saruman is used. Then, when they awaken (which also adds some ents), use an ent to place in a space to either (a) attack with 5 dice and then discard; or (b) create a chain from Fangorn of ents for further placement and/or attacks
- I haven't tended to use the dunlendings faction but they seem like an interesting varition which lets the Shadow player recruit them in Rohan ... but noting that 1 hit against them kills 2 dunlendings rather than 1
- The corsairs faction needs planning and seem to get overlooked in games I've played. They basically let you send out ships along the coastline and then it is possible to 'teleport' troops between different spaces along the coast where the ships exist. Great for getting more troops to pelagir (and not having to wait for the Corsairs card) but unlikely to be used successfully to take Northeast portion of the board.
- The addition of Smeagol to the hunt pool is nice, and helps balance things a bit more for the fellowship
In addition, the two battle games (Rohan and Gondor) seem good ... but I've only played Gondor twice and Rohan not at all - we always tend to play WotR instead anyway ...
