The alternative "Lucky" power

By Somonelse, in Dark Heresy House Rules

The minor psychic power "Lucky" is effectively a Fortune Point. My character doesn't have any fate points left (so no fortune either), but this seems like a cheat even if I do have them since it can be manifested multiple times. Here's my alternative to it:

Instead of affecting your own roll, you affect others such as your enemies and friends. The points you already have makes you lucky, this will allow you to either curse someone (Bad Luck charm) or help them (Good Luck Charm). Now I know this is too powerful, so I think that a Fortune Point is required to be spent inorder to force the reroll. If no reroll is forced then no points are spent and the power is wasted but can be manifested again. In another word, this power expands the ability for your fortune but is more or less self sacrificial.

Unfortunately, this will do my character no good. happy.gif

The balance is that you can still roll a 9 on your activation roll.

You are getting a free fate point, at least the reroll, but at the risk of becoming a daemon host or something slightly less nasty.

I am not really concerned about rolling the "9," I have a tendancy to use my power whenever the situation is simply life threating or some creative use can be involved. I don't think it's about being inexperienced, but I think it about being everything opposite from my GM, who was the Wizard in WFRP and was very close to insanity and maybe corruption.

Back to business. It is only when and if we reach Ascension that the "Lucky" power might become a probem, since you can make an unfethered roll and cause no psychic phenomena. With such a low power roll you don't need to bother at all, but I guess there are other powers more worth your time. It's just that there is a way to not spend any fortune points and still use its ability.

While it Is very powerful it doesn't have the instantanious nature of a fate reroll, you have to set up with a half action and save it for that one moment you need it. Fate points are always there and can be used no matter what even when you have no prep time.

You can't really "save up" the lucky power as you suggest, because you can only get the reroll, "any time before the end of your next turn turn".
