Questions about Great Sword of Hoeth and about Spellcraft specializations

By Kadyx, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

My first question is; are the encumbrance and the damage ratings switched on the card? I see that a normal Great weapon has a damage of 7 and a encumbrance of 6 but the Great sword of Hoeth has the two numbers switched so that the damage is 6 and the encumbrance is 7. Is the card correct or is it a typo?

My second question is that Swordmasters get a fortune die when using the Great Sword of Hoeth. I see that the Great Sword of Hoeth is marked as a superior quality blade. Is the bonus that the Swordmasters gets the same that he would get for the weapon being Superior quality or are they separate bonuses and stack?

Last question for now anyway. Specializations for the skill Spellcraft. Do PC's take individual spells as specializations or entire levels? I.e. specialization in Lightning bolt rather than Rank 2 spells. I am inclined to believe it is per individual spell but some in my group wish to argue that if that was the case the rules would have been clearer.

Thank you for your time and help.

I have no idea about the Sword of Hoeth, I suggest you submit your question at http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_faq.asp (the small Rules Questions link at the bottom of the page).

The Spellcraft specializations are for entire ranks, otherwise it would have said "By spell" or something similar. But having separate specializations for spells could also be added of course. Some people even allow these specializations to stack (i.e. casting a rank 1 spell when specialized both for the spell and for rank 1 grants 2 fortune dice).

Is this problem solved ?

Is the bonus that the Swordmasters gets the same that he would get for the weapon being Superior quality or are they separate bonuses and stack?

The bonus that the Greatsword of Holth gets is for the weapon being Superior quality. There are weapons in the Piest box that work the same way.

And what about damage and encumberence? Is it a typo? Looks pretty strange...

I'm in on the queue.

Has anybody an answer to the typo-question on the stats for the Greatsword of Hoeth (damage 6 instead of 7 and encumberance 7 instead of 6)? I also submitted a rules-question months ago - No answer.

PLEASE HELP!

As a GM, i would put it in line with other Great Weapons (DR7 / CR2, Enc. 6). The Superior Quality is what gives the Fortune, so no stacking it twice.

The real bonus of the weapon being the ability to choose the Critical.

But, also as a GM, i changed 4 Careers to make them Advanced (Waywatcher, Wardancer, Swordmaster & Ironbreaker) and I would also change the Career ability card for the Swordmaster and Ironbreaker so they don't get items that powerful (especially the Ironbreaker)

Thank you for your quick response Cwell2101.

Thats what I thougt. No official answer in that point. I think this means we'll have to wait for the vault. preocupado.gif

Me as our group, we are newbies to the warhammer universe. So for me I do not have the issue of interpreting the Sword Master as a character of legend. He's just some kind of initiate (with hopefully advanced versions in omens of war). Especially because he lacks real power actions. The bigger issue is playing a character of an "old civilized race" working together with "barbarians".

hehe, total dwarf favorization.

Iron Breaker - You get a nice shiny 200gold worth set of armor.

Sword Master - We have this lovely crafted, and yet flawed two-handed sword... would go for 10 gold, with some luck.
