Searched the forums and i'm surprised I haven't seen a question on this.

With the Ring of Freedom, a player of ours was under the impression that he could declare a full battle action, and still move his normal movement.

We have been ruling for the last couple games that the Ring of Freedom is meant for effects like web and moving through rough terrain or whatever. Since we are starting the Road to Legend this week, I thought it would be a good time to clarify just in case.

The Ring of Freedom means that you can always spend the movement points you have. There's nothing on the card to suggest that it ever gives you movement points; you need to get them in one of the usual ways before you have any to spend.

So it protects you from Grapple, Web, and possibly a couple more obscure effects (there was a discussion on BGG about whether it lets you move while asleep in Road to Legend).

Your friend is wrong. When you declare a battle action you immediately recieve zero movement points . You cannot spend what you don't have. The only possible way to get movement points after declaring a battle action is by spending fatigue points (or through the use of certain other magic items like The Knight's Ring)

That would make a nice pairing with something like the Elven Boots, which do grant you movement even if you declare Battle.
