I'm sorry, I find it laughable that it provides a chance for an officially sanctioned tournament win to be determined by a die roll. Sure, it's under extremely unlikely circumstances, but I don't at all agree with FFG's official tournament rules providing a way for winners to be determined via die roll. Please, James, remove that and allow players to play until the end of the next turn or something similar. Random chance should not ever be the factor, especially not in a single elimination round.
New Tournament Rules
As i see it, it is only for a single-elimination part of the tournament with a time limit. I would expect the big events to have no time limits in the Top8 and thus render this rule needless.
If however even the big events should have a time-limit, i agree with your comments (btw our regionals had top8 without time limit and there was absolutely no problem with that, no game lasted more than the usual limit.)
If its a tie and both damage done and zones burned is identical I cant see what more they can do other than do it by random process. If they do not then that delays the whole tournament. Which down the line costs people money. An extra half hour may not sound much, but its an extra half hour of expenses for the venue holding the event.
I agree that it would be horrible to lose out on a tournament because of a dice rool, but for the sake of time (organizers have other things to do as do the players themselves) there needs to be a cutoff point. I'm pretty sure that with the tiebreakers before it we won't see many 'die rolls' occuring...
Of course time limits and now tie breakers heavily favor 'rush' based decks but that is just the nature of the beast I suppose.
