Astropath's See Without Eyes and Blind Fighting?

By kuba4, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Why Blind Fighting is in astropath carrer advanement? He have See Without Eyes actually...

There are situations where an Astropath's ability to see psychically isn't going to work. Rooms with psy-dampeners or fighting untouchables. It probably wouldn't come up that often (depends on the campaign) but it would give a nice edge in those situations.

Because Blind Fighting covers smoke, etc, as well as darkness, and so is still useful to Astropaths since, whilst they don't need light to see, they still only see what is there, and if that is a huge cloud of fog/smoke around them, they're just as useless as the people who have eyes.

I thought smoke was specifically mentioned as one of the things that DOES NOT effect Astros... In fact I'm almost sure of it. I had better check this, since my Astro has smoke grenades for this very reason... preocupado.gif

Well, the description states that it isn't affected by things that target their vision, such as blind grenades. It pretty much comes down to whether you think something targets their vision or not. I'd be of the opinion that, since Astropaths can't see through walls or the like, sufficiently thick smoke/fog would likely mess up their vision too.

Also, technically, given how it's stated, that could be read to mean that darkness does affect them, since it says they see normally otherwise.

I might send off an e-mail to Sam Stewart, ask for a little clarification of quite how the "See Without Eyes" works.

EDIT:

This was Sam's reply:

See without Eyes can effectively see through darkness and vision hampering devices, such as blind grenades. However, as their power is psychic based, its not unlikely that psychic powers (or psychic limiters, such as Untouchables) would cause them to 'lose' their sight. For example, if fighting an untouchable, the Astropath would need to use Blind Fighting, because he can't see it at all.

Likewise, an Astropath cannot see an invisible creature, so that would be another case where Blind Fighting would be useful.

Well, groovy Tuesdays. Thanks for that tidbit, MILL.

I think I really need to start compiling a nice FAQ file soon, so I can find all these things more easily.

Horrendously expensive talent for such situational modifiers, though.

Would the Navigator power "Cloud in the Warp" interfere with an astropaths psychic 'sight' ?

Well, Sam said that psychic powers would likely work at obscuring the sight, since it is Psychic Sight, so maybe happy.gif
