[GENCON] **FREE** Saturday Night Chaos Draft: A Fool's Errand **FREE**

By Maester_LUke, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

For those of you who are new to the AGOT GenCon scene, GenCon has had it's share of legendary events, and not all FFG-sponsored. There was the "Drunk Draft" of '06 courtesy of Professor AJ and newly-crowned Champion, Matt Ley, and then the Wednesday Night Madness of '07, followed closely by the first & last "official" Five Kings "Block" Draft featuring custom-assembled draft packs from Song of Summer & Winds of Winter in 2008 (with a special thanks to Nate & Morgan for all their hard work).

This year, with the championship events starting early, we're planning on a Chaos Draft (just how chaotic depends on who and how many attend) following the Classic Highlander tournament @ approximately 9pm. We'll marshall under our banner at the AGOT gaming HQ in the convention center and sally forth to our tourney ground. With luck, our outriders will have secured the field early and we'll not need to bring our van for anything but mopping up. We'll also leave notice in the card hall of our destination.

Final checks will be made at the time, but players should be prepared to draft from any number of pre-LCG card sets, and using the original draft packs. In an elegant fusion of the new rules and old cards, gold can be spent to pay influence costs, and you won't actually flush the gold from your gold pool until the beginning of the next marshalling phase. If their are any questions regarding rules or organization, check back in this thread for updates, contact me directly: 563.554.9221.

Otherwise, embrace the Chaos. > :D And yes, it's free.

**** you and your Saturday night fun. I'd love to participate, but alas, we leave Saturday morning..... (Well I guess it's not all bad, this reply allowed me to use "alas" in a sentence.)

Cha0s draft eh? Well that sounds right up my alley...do I get royalties for the use of my board name? gui%C3%B1o.gif

If I spelled it that way, fo' sho'. :P And I suppose it's too late to remind 'jester to bring me my chain. :/

Ah LUke, you are speaking my draft language. Valar Draftichaotic All men must chaos draft!

While I no longer had the strength to finish the event (and dropping evened our numbers back up) the 14 remaining entrants jousted valiantly into the 4th round starting c. 3:05am on Sunday morning. From a field of 30 entrants (a shout out to Katie Altieri from IL for making us an even number) we winnowed the field to one left standing, letting Dobbler take a crown he hadn't picked up yet that weekend.

A big thank you to all who searched out the tourney grounds in the Embassy Suites lobby, and for your display of cunning, stamina, and skill. Let's see if we can make it bigger and brighter next year.

Maester Luke

A fantastic event Luke, thanks for putting it together and running it. I always enjoy a good draft, and this was one of the best! I was also pleasantly surprised by the dedication of the players who continued to battle into the wee hours of the morning.

so late! nate and i didn't finish until about 4:30.

A ton of fun. Great to use the old cards to be sure (next year I need to bring a cube draft for another night).

Thanks Luke for setting it up!

~Boo to Dobbler for drafting the Bara Traitor!!! I was killing him until that Traitor took my 10 strength, unkillable, undiscardable, tri-con King Bob with 5 power on him!!! :) That card lost me the crown dammit! :)

i was talking to greg about our third round match just before you two played (and i found my way back to my hotel somehow and passed out), telling him just how badly your uber-bobby walked all over me -- no wonder he got that evil twinkle in his eye :-)

Yes, he basically told me when I sat down to play him "I beat you right now, due to only one card". I thought he was just talking smack...turns out I was wrong :)
