Question on committed/tapped cards

By genya2, in CoC General Discussion

Just a quick question with what is probably an obvious answer.

If a character with an attachment is committed to a story, and therefore "tapped," can that character still use the attachment?

For example, if I commit a character with Shotgun attached to a story, and my opponent commits a monster, can I still use the shotgun in the space before combat resolves? Since this seems like it would cause a second tap, I was wondering if this could only happen from a card uncommitted at the time.

Thanks in advance.

attachments don't exhaust with their exhausted committed characters. fire away.

The Shotgun reads:

Attach to a character. While attached character is committed to a story, it gains "Action: pay 1 to choose and wound a character committed to this story."

It doesn't mean you'll have to exhaust anything to use the ability, you just have to 'Pay 1' - So, as long as you have undrained domains with at least one resource attached left, you can keep fireing.

The Prize Pistol is a different matter. It says "Exhaust Prize Pistol and pay 1" - which means you will have to be able to exhaust the pistol in order to trigger the ability, because here exhausting is part of the cost. Still, the exhaust/ready state of an attachment is independent from the character that it's attached to.

Hopefully this doesn't seem like I'm hijacking the thread but, expanding on the original question:

So if a player takes control of a character with shotgun as an attachment, what happens? Does he control the character but the attachment owner still control shotgun and is still able to use it? Could the shotgun wound the character its attached to?

I just picture this disembodied shotgun floating around shooting people in a story.

Shotgun grants the ability to the character, so the controller of the character can activate the ability. Even to shoot himself.

That's right. The attachment still belongs to the original player, but if the attachment bestows the character with an ability (like Shotgun does), then the character has the ability. If the attachment has its own ability then the original player has control over it.

You have to check the text of the specific attachment to be sure.

i see. So if the attachment bestows something like extra icons on attached character (who's controlled) that character would still get the additional icons, but if the attachment has some kind of independant ability then the controller of the attachment would be the one able to activate it.
