So is anyone else playing the 1st edition of this still or am I the only one with a good copy of the original GW game. Just courious I plan on getting the new edition and the exps. for the hell of it but yeah still playing the 1st edition.
1st edition
Well if you still have the 1st edition you will have black and white adventure cards! The Wand allows you to have one more Spell than you started the game with, and the Command Spell only targets one player!!!
Ell.
Hey there you two. I did catch this topic early but came back to it upon a whim. Since the two of you probably more familiar with 1st edition than anyone I've encountered, I was just wondering for the heck of it...
Are there other notable attributes, cards, etc. of 1E vs other editions you'd like to share? Might be fun to hear about, especially since the difference in the Wand peek my interest. For instance, any thoughts on why that one change as of 2E?
I'm not sure, if You are speaking about this, what I want to tell You, or about something else, however there is no much differences between 1st Edition, and 2nd Edition.
Like Elliott said, only one card, Adventure card, which is changed is the Wand, which allows You to always have one Spell more than the number You had at the beginning of the game. Current Wand gives You only 1 Spell.
Another difference is Command Spell. In 1st Edition You were able to cast it only at target singe Character, while in 2nd Edition all the Characters were losing a life.
Again like Elliot said, all the Adventure cards or Spell cards were black and white. Character cards however were coloured.
Main board wasn't a 4 piece of puzzles but normal long one.
Rules sheet was green coloured, not red coloured.

That's all what I can think now. I don't recall another differences. I also may want to mention, that Polish Magia i Miecz, even if everywhere people say otherwise, is based on 1st Edition, not 2nd Edition. Which means, we always cast Command Spell on target Character and once, when I heard that CS is cast on all the Characters, I was really surprised. Also Conjurer + Wand = no beatable combo. Polish edition had expansions from the 2nd Edition, however core game was from 1st Edition.
Thanks. I had heard of some of these other details. If the Wand was the only notable difference, then I guess there's not much to discuss. But overall, can you explain how the Conjuror + 1E Spell combination is "unbeatable"... just for curiosity.
Sure.
Conjurer's abilities more or less are:
Ability 1: You begin the game with 1 spell.
Ability 3: Whenever you have more than 1 spell, you may keep a spell card after casting it and discard another spell card in its place.
When Conjurer has the Wand, he always has 2 Spells. With his third ability, he can cast infinite amount of FoD ; may verify, using Verification Spell, every die roll ; or has unlimited Teleportations.
EDIT: That's why I'm hoping to see Conjurer in newest Talisman
Book of Lore and his third ability, and we have powerful spellcaster ![]()
I have the 1st, 2nd & 4th revised editions.
Grew up on the 1st edition and then eventually stumped up the cash to go colour but that was pretty late in the day.
The 1st edition board was much better quality. Proper folding with a nice hard backing and good quality paper.
Never really used the 2nd ed board, as had been said, it was smaller and a jigsaw configuration with softer surface that scuffed.
I think overall I prefer 1st to 2nd, even with the b&w images.
Being a guy (and not reading the manual properly) , until you guys mentioned it I never realised that the rules for wand and CoC changed. We always played the 1st edition rules with the 2nd edition cards by the sounds of it. Never read the cards either, we knew them all off-by-heart.
I now have all sets within arms reach having rescued the vintage ones from the attic.

Well, that is an interesting glitch, but don't count on that version of the Conjuror ever coming back. I would hope they know their game's history as well as you and do not reintroduce an infinite loop. It would only lead to ... umm, add to... growing FAQs.
Oh, and I personally like the 2E puzzle board. We had every 2E expansion, every component was coated using seal self-adhesive plastic shelf paper, and my daugther has it all in another state. Even now, every component is in prime condition... and I'm starting to feel a little nostaligic and may have to beg for all of it to come home.

Sorry to say, but I'm not so sure about that. FFG gave us in exactly one expansion next infinite, and already well known from 2nd Edition, infinite loop. Valkyrie + Champion or Dog from Dungeon = She is unbeatable in battle. Tie on CoC space.
Valkyrie + Friendly Giant = until the end of the game, she is immune to all the psychic combat attacks.
And basically there is no Spells (except Mesmerism) and other cards like "Discard target Follower to the discard pile". So, once a Character gets Follower, he/she really must has a badluck to get rid of all of them.
Well, those are no good! So sad. Our group has notice problems with the Valkyrie, but we hadn't run into those combinations as yet.
