If my Slayer has a Great Book of Grudges attached and I sacrifice it in order to destroy n attacking unit in what order do the effects go off?

I have pretty much assumed so far that the Slayers effect would resolve killing the attacker and then the Great Book would trigger forcing the enemy to take indirect damage.

That sounds about right. Just be careful as to which part of combat you use the ability.
