Stygia is a fictional land somewhere in the south in The Hyborian Age, the antediluvian earth setting for Conan the Barbarian in the fantasy stories of Robert E. Howard. The Stygians are very mysterious and well versed in arcane arts. Many are sorcerors They most commonly worship the god Father Set who is possibly one of the Elder Gods of the Cthulu mythos. wiki

or else it refers to the River Styx and Hades.

I think stygian is an adjective meaning dark or relating to the river styx. Great new cards though. Time for Cthulhu to counter punch the yellow king in the gut.

I recall that the flavor for WarCraft II back in the day made a reference to "the stygian pits that spawned [demons, IIRC]." Ever since, I've associated the word with hell and the river Styx, but I think that either definition works in this context.

I'm hoping that as I play more of the game I will get a stronger sense of how these cards might impact the environment, but for now I have to say, card art doesn't get much better than on Hastur, Lord of Carcosa. Eerie and threatening without resorting to anything direct. I love it.

The new Hastur looks to be the latest of the game's iconic illustrations. Tentacle Hastur domains and champion play mat were the regionals first place prizes, the regionals official poster Tentacle Hastur also. Iconic not just because new Hastur is being pushed, but because they've done a good job presenting him. The art speaks for itself. The designers seized the opportunity. This is important with a beautiful card, and hurts when it doesn't see play.

Champion of the Mythos, 2010 is crowned this Thursday! Let's see what spoils then.

...Never mind that Hastur in Tentacles is a new thing.

ps. thank you nyarla for deckbuilder 1.5.8
