Inside a gate when it is closed by another investigator

By Kastagir2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello, this is my first post. I've read through quite a few messages and couldn't find an answer to a question my group has run across a few times. Sometimes an investigator will get sucked into a gate when another investigator is already inside. This can happen through encounters or through movement necessity (such as trading items, etc.) My question is this: if an investigator is inside a gate (i.e. in an Other World) and the gate he entered is closed by another investigator, what happens to the investigator still in the Other World once they are ready to leave? Are they immediately delayed and/or sent to the Lost in Time and Space box? The original rules don't see to describe this occurrence.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the carnival!

When an investigator closes a gate to an OW that another investigator is in... nothing happens. Only when the investigator attempts to move out of the Other World (or casts Find Gate or an event says "return to Arkham" or he fails a combat/evade check against a Nightgaunt) do you check to see if the appropriate gate is open. If there is none and the investigator does not have a Gate Box, he is Lost in Time and Space.

This of course means that while the investigator is in the other world, another gate to that other world might open, allowing him to return safely.

The rules probably don't mention it specifically because there's nothing intrinsically strange about it. If you just follow ordinary procedures it will resolve itself.

Enjoy your gaming!
