What's the rarity/cost of the mechadendrites in Ascension?

By darknesseternal2, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

There's no chart that I can find.

The Inquisitors handbook also has a lot of gear that doesn't give a rarity. Some of them just have a line on the table, others have useless entries like "Tech-Priest Only". You will have to either contact FFG or house rule it.

If you're house-ruling it, I'd go with extremely rare on most items that lack a listed rarity.

Presumably, the mechadendrites are as rare as the talent allowing for their competent use. After all, one would not have one implanted unless they were learning to use it.

Otherwise, I would presume most would likely be scarce to rare for such items.

The Plasma cutter uses the mechadendrite (gun) talent, available at rank 5. Rank 4 on explorators.

The Servo arm uses mechadendrite (utility), which is rank 3 (the first rank a Tech-Priest can take mechadendrite talents). Rank 1 on explorators.

Training to use either is easily done.

I went with extremely rare because they seem better than other mechadendrites, so they should be rarer. RT lists all the other mechadendries as being very rare, while DH doesn't give a useful rarity.

The servo arm isn't that rare - every enginseer of the guard has one.

Looking over the information provided in Rogue Trader, it indicates all mechadendrites are Very Rare, with the following notation;

  • Some cybernetic systems are only provided to tech-adepts of the Adeptus Mechanicus - though it is possible that skilled hereteks might risk the Machine Cult's wrath by implanting crude versions of these systems in anyone willing to pay their price.

I would therefore postulate that the mentioned rarity is for these non-sanctioned mechadendrites, while a Tech-Priest should potentially have access to any mechadenrite to which they have picked up the correct talent for. Hard to say with certainty how to work it exactly.
