Del-Toro and Cameron to make "At the Mountains of Madness"

By JerusalemJones, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Funny you should mention: the gang's been utilizing the old "Message Deleted" thread for that very use and this very topic.

Nevermind! It appears you now know.

While we're in the spirit of wishes, I wish the Arkham Statistics Reports thread was re-stickied gui%C3%B1o.gif

I was tempted to just start a "Off Topic Petition" thread. After all, it worked the first time.

There is a bizarre new subforum that has no real explanation of its purpose, perhaps we should hijack it?

Yea, when I heard about this I immediately thought "No way FFG is gonna pass up doing a Mountains of Madness expansion pack."

Actually it's possible that this could make it more difficult for FFG to make a AtMoM expansion trademark law being what it is today. Though I doubt it because a quick search of the registered trademark database reveals no one has made a claim to the title.

FFG could just call it, "Arkham Horror: Cold n' Crazy expansion"

With the possible exception of some up-in-the-air issues that no one seems to actually care about, all of HPL's stuff is public domain.

True but that pertains to copyright not trademark, they are different things. If someone were to go out and make a game called "At the Mountains of Madness" they could register a trademark on that title in the realm of games and if they desired could attempt to block the production of similarly named games. It is common place in this genre when a studio registers their mark for a movie title they also register one for games, usually video game only but it's not unheard of to try to register it as all encompassing in the game field. I don't see something like this being an issue with arkham horror because prior use is apparent but often just the threat of suit from a larger company will shut down a project being undertaken by a smaller one. Of course Tibs suggested the obvious answer in the unlikely event of threat.

Everyone seems to want a Mountains expansion, but has anyone thought how it would tie in with the rest of the game? I mean, we have 4 towns which are located more or less close to each other, and then what, a frozen plain in the Antarctic? Or is everyone thinking about a small box expansion? Still, I don't see how that could tie in with the game...any ideas?

What about doing the expansion as a board overlay like the big box expansions for Runebound?

I don't know, the only board game I have is Arkham. Is that like a board you put on top of the regular board? And what changes in the game mechanics?

Yes, it is a board that goes on top of the main board. Basically it means all of the standard locations are replaced by new ones, essentially it would be like playing a custom scenario for Arkham, since it would have to come with replacement mythos cards and location cards (since the normal locations would not exist while using the overlay). Imagine a Touring version of KiY or CotDP with a replacement board and using more mythos and location cards to replace those decks instead of adding to.

I don't think there are really enough locations from aMoM to justify a board the size of Arkham proper (and you couldn't really make an overlay that only covers half the board.) To be honest, even at the size of other expansion boards, you'd have to use a fair bit of the space for "travelling" locations just to use the entire board.

But, the "Travelling" locations idea is probably the best I've heard as far as (a) how to integrate Antarctica into Arkham and (b) a new mechanic for the expansion to revolve around. Have a host of locations that chain along the ocean, leading down to the landing point in Antarctica. Each with their own encounters and so on, so that travelling between Arkham and Antarctica takes time, as it should. Of course, even getting from Arkham to Dunwich can be a pain sometimes, so this would create new issues as far as investigators trying to keep up with gate activity, etc.

But hey, AMoM Movie? I'm there!

I'll definitely be with you on this point; too many things to discuss not strictly related to the game mechanics
