More questions from SnakeEyes

Got the wife hooked on playing RuneWars. Life is good. cool.gif

A couple questions came up, though:

1) When playing the Spread Dissent Tactics card (all neutral units in an area must retreat) who chooses which area those units retreat to?

2) Is it correct that when an army loses a battle and must retreat, any units routed during that battle are destroyed?

If the neutrals are allied, the player controlling those neutrals chooses; he can retreat them to another friendly area and they will remain friendly (though they will be routed due to the retreat.

If the neutrals are unallied, the player to the active player's left chooses where they go, and must go to an uncontrolled area.

No, units routed DURING the battle are allowed to retreat; only units that were routed PRIOR to the battle would be destroyed. (Only the defender will have previously routed units, of course). This is one of the few exceptions to the "routed units can't retreat" rule (and is actually mentioned in the rulebook somewhere). There are a couple others, but most of them deal with tactics cards that specifically say. (Also, per a ruling from Corey K., the designer, if a neutral unit is already routed, and you attempt Diplomacy on it, if you choose the Grey result, the routed neutral MAY retreat again; it's not automatically destroyed because it's not a battle. If you choose a Red result, though, it will be destroyed if there aren't any standing neutrals left to defend it).

Thanks! All good info to know.
