WFRP3 on MapTools - Version 1.0

By Gitzman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Dudes,

I've got the first version up and running of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd Edition. This is still a work in progress but it seems to be moving along quickly so far.

Features:

  • WFRP3 RuleSet with stats for the tokens.
  • Dice Pool generation macros
  • Initiative generation
  • Auto-calculations for success/failure of actions when using Dice Pool Generator
  • Appropriate States (Fatigue, Stress, Distress, Knocked Out, Dead, etc.) which trigger and untrigger automatically when appropriate.
  • Custom Health Bar graphics and integrated critical hit state management.
  • Custom Stance Bar with 8 degrees of Agressive and Conservative
  • Stress, Fatigue, Corruption, Wounds and Critical automation and management through handy macros.

More to come soon.

I started a WFRPv3 maptools ruleset. I made some excellent progress with it. I made a solid dice roller that has some custom dice graphics. I even set up a basic character sheet (with pictures and everything). The dice roller has a popup window that lets you the dice to roll, then it rolls showing graphic dice, or text. It even separates out the positive from negative results to make it easier to cancel.

I'm not really sure how to zip up the ruleset I made though. If you can provide me with some basic instructions, I'll share what I've made so far.

That sounds great, i'd love to collaborate our ideas into a single working campaign file. Im also very curious to see how you handled some of the functions i put into my campaign file. Maybe we can improve on eachothers ideas with some luck.

The best way to transfer that kind of stuff is actually the most simple way...

  1. Save your campaign file (whatever.cmpgn)
  2. Zip or Rar the file if neccessary
  3. Email or post it somewhere for download.

Thats it.

Anyone opening that campaign file in MapTools should have access to all the macros and tables you have embeded into it. At least thats the experience i have had so far. If this does not work, let me know and i can show you the longer way which invloves exporting the macros, tables, states, ruleset, etc. But by default all that comes along with the CMPGN file, so if you build maps based off that template, the rest just comes along with it.

Please shoot me a copy of your most recent CMPGN file and i'll do the same: [email protected]

I wrote several Fantasy Grounds rulesets, but I'm not terribly familiar with Maptools, however I did (with the help of the community) pull off some usable mechanics. I sent you the ruleset, see if you can make sense of it. Here's some shots of the dice roller output:

The graphics where custom made (using the community fonts). They may be removed before release if FFG has an issue with them (I hope not).

I can't wait to try it out. I had many fun games on modified version of your WFRP2 platform. GOOD TIMES!

If we can get this down solid, I'd probably consider doing up the demo (DLSS) for teaching new players.

Get that exploding die (hammer) working so I can mop up on my players (heh!)

Looking forwards to it!

Nice resource site all the way! I'm adding it to my WFRP Links...

In the Map resource you even have Nuln and Norsca cool.gif - Should update the new v2.0 Nuln...

Updating to Nuln 2.0 as we speak.

I really like the look of the rolling system with the graphics of the dice. I've love to implement that and mix it with the autocalculations of the system i have in mine. I'll play with it over the next few days and see if i can come up with anything.

I had made some custom graphics for the dice as well, but i like your much more =)

Gitzman

Those dice graphics were made by Moosebiter. I did the coding. You're welcome to use it in your ruleset if it gets us any closer to a workable system. If you look in there, there's also a relatively complete framework for a character sheet that's linkable to on board models. There's also a mini-sheet for monster tokens and battle field objects. The rest of the code is just me fumbling around trying to make the sheets editable.

Gitz,

I think we'll need a quick "how to" guide on using the lib files, etc.

Another thought is that when I used the dice roller a couple times, it quickly became apparent that I wish that I had a macro that auto-filled the dice numbers or a "memory" so I didn't have to re-fill every time.

Otherwise it looks efficient. We'll have to play a quick showdown with some ngith goblins or something.

Okay! So...

Dice Pool roller Update! I've managed to get the best of both worlds i think. I've combined the graphic capabilites of the roller above with the results and automation of the one i did. Still probably room for improvement, but this is a really strong base to build from.

Very nice. Did you check out the character sheet stuff I did? That was my 'stopping point', I couldn't figure out how to make it editable.

Hello people. I really wish you had done this way way earlier, wouldve saved me quite a lot of work.

Anyway I just wanted to show you my own take on using Maptool for WHRPG3e. This is all very very old work, recently a bit improved.

The dice are not automated, but are really fast and intuitive to actually use ingame. Arguably there is a very good online diceroller so I didnt bother to reinvent the wheel. I am very happy to see you have made great progress in with the last post. Very good work.

There is no character sheet either as a simple .jpg as a handout works **** good and is very editable in photoshop or the like.

And now the good news... Everything else is fully automated and looks nice if i may say so. Theres more info ingame. A lot of work went into this, as I had very little knowledge about Maptool when I started, but a few months work wonders.

Here's the link to the campaign file:

Now I also have a question:

When a player changes from map to map, does he have to redownload those maps every time he switches? (I've mostly been using Maptool to supplement my tabletop playing as a virtual battlemat so I dont know, but am intending to start an online campaign soon). I was hoping to use a special map per player to put scanned action cards etc. and have them switch to this map every time they need to put/remove counters, look at it etc.

PS.

Nezzir can you send me your campaign file? My email is

cylone_clone

and its at

yahoo

.com

(sorry about the cryptic but id rather avoid spambots thank you)

As a side note I will be holding an online campaign soon so if there's anyone interested (and will tolerate a bunch of house rules) let me know.

File sent. I'm looking forward to seeing a consolidation of all three rulesets!

Hey thanks man. That was quick.

The dice roller is pretty nifty, lovely icons for the dice. Its still a bit clunky for lots of rolling, but luckily its setup so that its possible to hit tab with the pinky finger and type in the number of dice fast. Now i'm doubly excited to see it when Gitzman's finished with it.

The character sheet is quite good, I'm not sure what you mean that its not editable. Maybe you wanted to stuff too much into a single frame.

You've given me an idea in that Action cards could possibly be typed into a frame window like that, and recharge tokens replaced by a macro-controlled number. I think I've seen a text version of them somewhere. Hmm I wonder if Maptool allows custom fonts...

But most of all I really like how you did Location cards, sure its possible to do it with a background note but your way is pretty nice and saves a man a click :)

Hopefully a patchwork of all these frameworks will finally make it possible to play WFRPG online without an issue or having to jump through loops.

Well lots of new ideas, I'll see what I cook up when I get the time to meddle with this further.

By 'editable', I mean 'click a field on the sheet to change its value'. Currently, you have to right click and go to 'properties'. No big deal I guess, especially if the variable containers are named correctly, but it would be nice to be able to enter it right into the sheet.

As for the action cards, I probably wouldn't key anything in beyond the basic action cards (wouldn't want to bite the hand that feeds).
