Question about "Armoured prow" component

By Xanatov, in Rogue Trader

Hello,

there s another point of the rules i m not at ease with; the armoured prow component as stated in the rulebook should only be available to cruiser class hull, yet that removes its most tactical slot, the prow one that is able to shot in 3 directions, creating a second dead zone.

Also, i have seen along this forum that some people use to place "armouured prow" on frigate class hulls.

So is there any errata about the rulebook bout tis ? or is it some kind of house rule ?

Thanks for your answers ^^

It's a house rule, and replacing the prow weapon with more armour and a better ability to ram is the point of the armoured prow. It's one or the other.

I would pay close attention to the wording of this component; it only says you can't mount macrobatteries or lances on an armoured prow. We can expect to get nova cannons and torpedoes in the upcoming "Battlefleet Koronus" ( see profit and plunder for more info ). I can't recall an example of an imperial cruiser I have seen with an armoured prow (which is most of them) which hasn't had one of these two weapons.

I have house ruled in my campaign that it simply doesn't removed the prow slot.

In fact, a cruiser can't be outfitted with a Nova Cannon without mounting an Armoured Prow in the TT. But other than that, yup, you've got a second dead spot... if you discount the fact that in order to hit that "dead spot", you've got to end your turn in a position that leaves the cruiser well-suited to ramming you...

The NPC Lunar cruiser in the GM guide has both an armored prow, and torp tubes. (It has no torp, however...) The PCs did ram a few void waps, and system ships with horrible results for the smaller ships..... I've had Orcs with Armored prows to simulate the Ork frigate ram ships.

Orks build Raiders with Armoured Prows...

Nah. The Orks build armoured prows with engines. :)

Only because it's more fun than building decent torpedoes...

Considering what the average ork toolbox and materials amounts to... can we consider the interior of a space hulk or a rok sufficiently cavelike that we can apply memes?
