thinking of buying

By ClanNatioy2, in Talisman

I am very intrigued by this game and there are just a couple of questions I wanted to ask.

This game just looks like a classic board game. I know it was made back in the 80s but does the new edition still have a classic game feel? I grew up playing heroquest I know Talisman isn't a dungeon crawl but I really enjoyed adventuring and getting new equipment and I also just loved the feel of that game. I hope I'm being clear it's kind of hard to explain what I mean

Does the game have a lot of replayability? I'm tired of buying tons of different board games and only getting to play a few of them. I want a game that you can keep pulling out time and time again and still have a lot of fun with it.

Also what are the strong points of this game? is it the PvP? the questing? getting new equipment and leveling? is it something else?

I would greatly appreciate any feed back. thanks in advance

best game ever. some people think its too much luck and dice-involvment but I think this is possitive thing! Depending on the characters and number of participants - no game is like another....

oh yeah that's one thing I forgot to ask how many players is ideal to play with? I will usually be playing a 3 player game. I sometimes might be able to play a 4 player game.

so is the game still lots of fun with only 3 people?

We play a 2 player game, and it's lot of fun

The game is always different. It's totally random. you never know what for card you draw and what is gonna happen.

That makes the game special.

every character has also they own special abilities, so that makes each character different from each other.

I have play Heroquest back in my younger days when i was 11/12 year old.

I like talisman more than Heroquest.

Yes, it is a "classic" boardgame with a fantasy overlay. It's one of the few fantasy boardgames I've seen that still appeals to mainstream boardgame players as well. Really good for that, because it is very simple at its core, but with some limited variety and twists once you start playing more.

As with most games, it depends on what you expect out of them. There are some alternative endings, some expansion boards that add on to the main board, new cards to add to decks, etc. But the core of gameplay is always the same, just like with a "classic" boardgames. My group has several games of different complexity in this and related genres. Talisman is the one we use for our lighter nights or with people not so deeply into the fantasy game subclassification. Whether you play it a lot or a little, this view makes it worth being on any fantasy boardgamer's bookshelf.

Now, before you buy, go the Talisman Support Page to download and read the full manuals for the core game and expansions.

You can also visit the Talisman page at BoardGameGeeks.com to see some of the components, though they are often mixed with some homemade stuff. There's also a mix of stuff from the Black Industry's 4th edition [4E] (now defunct) and FFG's "Revised" 4th edition [4ER]. Don't worry if you find it confusing; this page is just for an overview and some peeks. The support page is for the hardcore details.

These two links will help answer almost all of your other questions and concerns.

I loved the game in the 80's.

I love it even more now. I can't wait until the entire board is expanded.

The game is so great that after a 4 hour session anyone can win or lose. Last game we played I was early leader and lost it all via a toading.

I took the backdoor to the Crown of Command and was one dice roll away from stealing the win. I failed. The randomness and variation of the game with all expansions is perfect.

I love it so much and got my friends into it too!
