Simple rule that could "fix" the Knife (hand to Hand) problem?

Would be required to be released in a FAQ/Errata

When 2 enemy units become adjacent on the same path they are considered to be engaged in hand to hand combat.

While engaged you may only use hand to hand combat items/values.

At any time during the game a person may disengage from hand to hand combat. This may only be performed once per turn at no action cost. Both the players perform a stamina duel. If the player that initiated the disengagement move fails may be attacked by a free counter attack by the engaged enemy using his/her lowest combat value.

OR (a different rule)

As an action the player may automatically disengage from hand to hand.

This ruling does not allow extra damage by the opponent or a stamina duel by the players. Instead it will force your opponent to waste an action to free his unit from hand to hand combat.

What do you think?

Do I walk alone on this one?

A little too complicated for my liking Sundance. Personally I think they should have gone with something simple like knife lets you reroll your two lowest attack dice or any character attacked with a knife not on overwatch cannot counter attack. Both would have made the knife worth taking.

Simply make it where a melee attack can only be counter attacked with a melee attack. Problem solved.

I also feel a successful melee attack should disarm your opponent. Make him drop his primary weapon on the board.

We're going to do some heavy play testing in the next few weeks. I've got several house rules we're going to try out.
