I'd like to talk about everyone's opinions regarding fan-written materials for WFRP. Three things in particular are on my mind:
- Should we bother?
- Are any of you interested in writing, editing, or even spellchecking for 3e fan-written materials?
- WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Since 3e came about, there has been a change in the energies for this game. Many of the 2e authors have decided to hang up their typewriters, leaving a vacuum for new authors to cut their teeth and make their names known. I believe that our quandary however is that there is a lack of organization and leadership to move on and produce new fan-written materials for 3e (with conversion capability to 2e).
If there is enough interest, I'm heading up some editing and writing for LIBER FANATICA #7 as well as recruiting authors who want to help shape the future of this game. I don't care if you don't want to write, but tell us what you want. www.liberfanatica.net/
Here are some of the things I want to see right off the bat. Let me know if they suck or if they make sense:
- Scenarios - There's always a need for scenarios. I'd like to see them supplement current material and reference a LOT of Warhammer background and elements. I want Dundjinni-quality maps, standardized formats, and faces for the NPC's. I want stuff you can play at conventions to help GROW our community of WFRP gamers in our areas.
- Racial Culture Relevant to the Player Character - Remember the regional backgrounds for Imperial humans in 2e? That's what I'm talking about.
- Careers - I want 4 level advancement tree's for each of the major careers. There should be a printable career sheet, abilities card, and some details to work with SPECIFIC to the Warhammer world instead of generic. Soldier (what unit?) -> Sargent of the Imperial Army (brief regional notes) -> Captain in the Imperial Army (brief regional notes). I've already started quizzing people about their group make-ups and we'll start there.
- Bestiary - I want more diversity of human opponents. The WAR MMO has TONS of examples of these for example. Simple updates that the GM can instantly use are my aim. I'm not talking about "just another update of stat blocks" from 2e, but stuff GM's can also add to their bestiary pages for existing listings.
- Usage of Canon Material - We have SO MUCH world material to work with. Why don't we see more of it in sidebars where the GM can reference it and help immerse players into the world beyond the current rain and grim-misery of the task at hand? Canon material is anything that has been printed for either WFB or WFRP. WFRP takes precidence. Give the GM some more tools and the players some more background. One thing that bugs me is that the GM knows the world and the players are given SCRAPS of information in which to make their characters. Prior independent stuff like WARPSTONE MAGAZINE set the standard for this in the past and I want to see it continue.
Your suggestions please.
