Wow, He Who Shall Not Be Named

By Kennon, in CoC General Discussion

Yowza! That new Hastur looks awesome! I'm excited!

Me too. He looks superb. My only problem is thinking how to get him into play.

I haven't been playing the game that long, but after my first dozen or so games, I haven't got above five resources in one domain a single time; and normally I stop at three, maybe four.

I've had a good look at Nyarla's deck builder, but can't see any obvious combos that would work. Carcosa to put H into discard, then Opening the Limbo Gate would do it I guess. Unfortunately, I play Hastur / Syndicate, or Hastur / Shub.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'd be willing literally to build my entire deck around getting this card out, so if you can think of anything I've missed let me know. Blanking willpower and terror would be so nice against my regular opponents playing Agency, Cthulhu and Yog!

The faction of "He Who Shall not be Named" seems to be making some serious strides towards being the big dog: A new King, a lunatic who can machine gun down cultists...w0w!

Since you mention not playing long, I won't dig too deep in the card tomb. Seeker of Mysteries in Secrets of Arkam F47 may not be a bad card for you. She's a neutral, so can go in any deck you build, and you can have three of her. Her ability is " Lower the cost for you to play characters with a printed cost of 5 or higher by 1 (to the minimum of 1) and it wouldnt turn off after you played one character.

Ive been playing a Yog deck lately and she kind of gives a double whammy. Her reduction, and she boosts combat icons for Son of Yeb.

Also Yog has the ability to reduce its cost based on spells in discard pile. Seeker of Mysteries adds to this, which really helps.

Its not a bad card for the cost., and besides every deck needs a little fodder. Of course I can't be held responsible for this suggestion once that lunatic comes out who can machinegun down all your cultists.

In the article I mentioned Seeker of Mysteries . If you use shub, you can also include Ghoulish Worshipper (Ancient Horrors, F19) to further help reduce cost. With a little luck, that could mean a turn three Ancient One.

Thanks guys, I guess I'd forgotten for a moment that cost reductions stack like everything else! That makes it much more feasible to play him from hand by turn 3 or 4.

I've only got the Core Set and Secrets of Arkham right now, though I'm going to split all the Dreamlands APs with a friend soon. I guess by the time HWSNTB is out I should have some choices for cost reducers ... unless he works out what I'm doing and steals all the Seeker of Mysteries cards!
