New Deathwatch Designer Diary: Systems in the Balance

By FFG Ross Watson, in Deathwatch

That's actually an interesting little concept. Reminds me of a 2300 AD adventure to the Pleiades... gran_risa.gif

On Hadex itself, it was written that it is most probably rift in space similar to the Eye and Maelstrom, but that it is suspected to sentient somehow. No further informations were given.

Hope that helps a bit.

That isn't what the book says. The little blurb about the Hadex Anomaly is as follows:

The 'red hole' known as Hadex is uncatergorisable and possibly sentient. It is believed that it constantly spews time from other dimensions into the southern spiral arm of our own galaxy, thereby distorting all attempts to monitor or control it. The outer rim of Hadex is dotted with ghost ships, trapped in a kind of stasis from which there can be no release.

That doesn't sound like a warp rift to me...

It was more the sentient astronomical phenomenon that I was going for, but cool either way. Other dimensions get my vote. gran_risa.gif

Speaking of Tyranids, they are widespread throughout the region, particularly North of the Slinnar Drift Star Cluster. They appear to be emerging from a single Hive fleet, described as "Dagon." 20+ of the 93-odd worlds in the region appear infested and/or in conflict with with Tyranids, making them one of the major threats in the region. The widespread nature of the threat suggests that they are highly mobile in the region, probably even more mobile than the Tau. The fact that they are so widespread, even cutting into "behind the lines" planets in Imperial controlled space like the Hive World Castobel suggests that perhaps there are a very large number of Genestealer cults operating within the region.

It might be interesting to learn when exactly a world is considered "under tyranid attack" - when there's a recognised stealer cult active or when there's already a hiveship lurking nearby? The latter case would mean there are quite a few splinter fleets active in the sector...

Thank you for clarification I wasn´t entirely sure of precise wording. Still it doesn´t contratdict classification of Hadex as a Warp Rif,t Empyrean is messing time as badly anything other, original Traitor Legionares (source: Soul Hunter), story of Desert Raiders, Erasmus Haarlock and at least one overexcited ork Warboss are proof to it.

Wait, doesn´t Ascension mention, that Ordo Chronos, before it disappeared, was based in Jericho Reach? This could get intresting...

If it's a warp rift, it's a very, very strange one...

As opposed to all those perfectly mundane rips in reality? gui%C3%B1o.gif

Another interesting point about the Jericho Reach background is that the chapter preview refers to the capital world of the former Jericho Sector as being a world called "Verronus." But there's no sign of Verronus on the map. (Well I can't find it anyway, but I'm prepared to stand corrected...) Where's the former capital gone? The chapter preview hints that it fell to internal cult activity of some sort...perhaps this cult activity created the Hadex Anomaly, destroying Verronus in the same way that the fall of the eldar created the Eye of Terror? Just more random speculation...

Another explanation would be that the planet's name was changed for some reason (revolutions and conquests often lead to the renaming of highly symbolical places). Certainly not as interesting from a dramatic point of view but small like that details add depth and credibility to a setting.

Yes...

Yes and no. The Ordo Chronos was not so much stated to be based in the Jericho Reach , as believed to have been established there ( Ascension page 171). And then mysteriously, and quite suddenly, they all disappeared. Kind of like the Dinosaurs. Except, maybe the Ordo Chronos is not dead. No one knows.

Makes me wonder a little bit about Inquisitor Silas Marr.

Like the one in Cardiff? lengua.gif

Yeah. Who cares about random aliens and junk anyway?

Besides, everyone knows Torchwood is secretly running the Inquisition!

That information is deemed security clearance Vermilion and above. Please report to your nearest Arbites precinct fortress for sentencing and summary mind-cleansing. Thank you for your cooperation.

I care about random aliens and junk. They are almost as annoying as those interrupting cows. And for any not in the know by now, Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who. gran_risa.gif Go figure, right?
