reaper or frostmarch?

What is your opinion regarding the reaper and the frostmarch expansion? Do you play both of them at the same time?

the reaper seems more interesting and fun in a two player game?

Please write what you think of each one in a short way, for example reaper: unfair, fun, difficult and finnaly which one you think I should get!

Thye're both really fun...

Reaper- You get the dark cultist, who gets rewards for every enemy she kills(like gold, fate, ect) and she's always evil. The knight starts with a sword and sheild, is always good and has a Strength4 and Craft3, meaning he's very versitile, but he can't attack good characters. The merchant starts with 5 gold, and can "Trade" objects with other players, whgich they can't deny (heres a helmet for that holy lance happy.gif ) And the sage can reroll his movement die and knows whats on the top of the adventure deck and spell deck. The reaper himself is VERY talismanly. He'll sometimes ask you to play a game of chess (miss a turn), help you out, and of course kill you. I remember he landed on a friend of mine, and the reaper made a mistake, so he sent it to me, whioch he again made a mistake and I sent it to my friend, only to kill him gran_risa.gif . Get the reaper you want more death in talisman, and the characters are balanced, I haven't noticed any of them having a huge winning streak.

Frostmarch- This expansion comes with a lot of cards, I think more than the reaper. A lot of these are ice based, which is representing that she's trying to take over the land. You'll find frost dragons in the desert, ice elementals in the ruins, and other out of place monsters. It really fits the theme of the expansion. It also comes with alternate endings, 2 of which yoiu put them on the crown, and it'll be the crown and sceptor, where you auto cast the command spell, or you fight the ice queen! The characters are pretty strong, maybey even to strong. The ogre cheiftan and necromancer can avoid monsters and spirits respecively, and they can take control of those typse of enemies, but the necromancer doesn't have to beat them, just have a higher craft. The warlock starts in the middle region, in the warlock cave, and he starts with 2 spells and will always have his full compliment of spells (probrally 3) so he's very good, but he can't start fights in psycic combat and will get easily beaten in battle. And the lepercaun can get 3 gold if he lands in the woods, and teleport if he rolls a six. This expansions fun for the endings and the additional cards.

I generally play with both, so I get to have fun with the reaper and the hidden endings. If I had to pick one however, I'd probrally choose the reaper expansion, the characters are more balanced and the reaper is a great adition.

If you count the character-sized cards, Frostmarch has 2 cards over Reaper (3 alternate endings vs Reaper). Reaper has more Adventure and Spell cards, Frostmarch's main edge is double the Warlock Quest cards, which isn't really that big of a deal IMO. If I'd get to have only 1 expansion, it would be Reaper, even over the board expansions. Characters didn't suffer from the power-creep later expansion characters do and Reaper doubles the size of the Adventure and Spell deck. Plus, the insta-kill factor of the Reaper, while it might not happen that often, is still a deterrent/threat.

Without doubt, I would say that Reaper is the only truly essential expansion for Talisman 4the Edition (Revised), based purely on the Adventure Cards and Spell Cards it adds to the base game, including many beloved favourites from 2nd and 3rd Editions, plus some important new cards (including some that consolidate the Fate rules).

Frostmarch certainly has a fair number of great Adventure cards and Spells (from quintessentially Talismanic cards such as Basilisk and Transmutor, to the much needed Arcane Archive for spell cycling) but is not quite as essential as Reaper. (As a side note, the frosty theme is not particularly emphasised - less than a third of the cards are related to it.) If you are not into the additional boards of the large expansions, I would certainly add Frostmarch as your next purchase after Reaper.
