Psychic Disciplines

By Jeff Tibbetts, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hey all. I have a few question that always pops in and out of my mind as I read, so I thought I had better post it quick. I am not entirely clear how psykers go about picking their disciplines. The book alludes to them being able to have a discipline per Psy Rating, which would mean at Rank 2 they chould choose powers from all three, right? Am I missing something? Is the idea of mastery supposed to keep them interested more or less in one discipline? Also, do they have to actually choose a technique from each discipline in order to get the basic technique, or do they just sort of pick up all three by Psy Rate 3? One more... Sorry... Why is Telepathy split into two branches, besides fluff? Does it impact mastery to choose from just one side of the tree? Okay, sorry if this has been cleared up, but my search-fu is weak.

I appreciate any help you might be able to give me!

The disciplines are telepathy, divination and telekinesis

Astropaths start off with access to telepathy. They can purchase access to divination or telekinesis by taking the psychic discipline advance at rank 3 and/or 6

As to why telepathy is split, I'm not really sure. Probably because it fits onto the page better. The powers in each group are more related to each other than the powers from the other telepathy group, but the only limit to taking telepathy powers is that some require you to have first taken another power.

8+ powers in a single discipline means your effective psy rating is at +1 when casting at fettered strength.

Presumably there will be other "subdisciplines" coming with the supplements announced.
