Aqshy Talent limit?

By LukeZZ, in WFRP Rules Questions

Is there a limit on the number of Power Points that can be expended to "empower" a Bright Order spells?

If there is no limit spells like Burning Blood became almost useless...

What! A reaction card that does direct Wounds = Power spent and requires no skill check is useless?

Burning Blood rocks. It is a GM's nightmare against super high soak NPCs. One critical wound and suddenly it becomes +10.

First the maximum damage Burning Blood can is equal to the critical severity.

Second why should I keep Power Points when I can expend them on my Fire spell Action to increase the damage by +1 for every Power Point?

The Aqshy card: "When you perform a Bright Order Spell action that deals damage, for each 1 additional power you spend you may increase the damage caused by that spell by 1."

Burning Blood is a Bright Order spell action that deals damage. It also bypasses Damage Reduction and so does wounds directly. It would be extremely strained to argue that wounds are not damage...

Example where Burning Blood is effective:

Round 1: Wizard Channels for 7 power (total 12) and casts 'Shielding Winds of Aqshy' - ends his turn on 9 power. Later a critical is scored against an NPC. Wizard invokes Burning Blood causing 9 wounds. 12 power spent for 9 wounds and the SWoA effect.

Round 2: Wizard Channels for 7 power (total 8) and casts Flameblast. Spell hits for 9 damage potential. The target's damage reduction is 10, so the spell causes only 1 wound. Expending extra power would be wasted. 6 power for 1 wound.

Round 3: Wizard Channels for 7 power (total 9) and casts Fire of U'zhul. Spell fails. 7 power wasted.

Rounds 4: Wizard Channel 7 power (total 9). Ends turn on 9 power. Critical caused to NPC. Burning Blood hits for 9 wounds.
