Talisman: The Sacred Pool Expansion announced!

By Nemomon, in Talisman

I was wondering if somebody has already played with the new characters.

How plays the chivalric knight, or the Dread knight etc

We played with everyone but the Cleric so far. Dread Knight plays well : it's cool that he gets a new warhorse every time he visits the graveyard....I keep getting an image of the horse coming out of the ground from 'The Brothers Grimm'. The Dread Knight looks more like Cernunnos or Herne than Christopher Walken, though... :) Chivalric Knight can be a pain in the ass, frankly: "I'll assist you!!" "Thanks, I don't need assistance." "I insist!" "Really, I'm fine." "But I get rewards if I assist you!" My, how altruistic. Sure, you win the combat, but you're robbed of the satisfaction of defeating the creature yourself. I played the Magus, but true to my luck, everyone but me got tonnes of followers, whilst I languished fighting strength-based enemies. Bah. Seems like every time I play the Gladiator or Magus, the Troll or the Leprechaun or someone gathers enormous crowds of hangers-on. I played with the Magus last time, as I said, and made it all the way to the Pit Fiends, who killed me 'cause I had no strength. Then I took over the Dread Knight from my girlfriend, who went to bed, and powered him up, chasing the Chivalric Knight all the way to the Inner Region - twice, 'cause I botched the Crypt roll - before he zapped me with the command spell. I feel like on paper, it looks like the Magus might be overpowered next to the Chivalric Knight (really, is a riding horse all that useful?), but in practice, the luck of the draw fed me to pit fiends (I'm still bitter). So I think everything balances out, pretty much.

Was the dread evil in the whole game, or has he been change to good

It sounds cool indeed to get everytime a new warhorse from the graveyardgran_risa.gif

Is it really worth to help other characters many times in battle, because they gain a trophy, and the chilvarlic knight must also miss a turn

Ahh, just recieved my copy today... The postman must have seen my happy face when he gave me the package babeo.gif

The sacred Pool expansion has arived in the shop todaygran_risa.gif

I will pick it up tommorowbabeo.gif

I am still waiting for my expansion to arrive, whats everyone's thoughts?

Are the quest rewards worth completing quests for?

Definitely. The "Glass Guardians", "Luck of the Dead" and "Ancient Names" are especially so, in my opinion. Most 'extra' lives, fate, and spells are usually bound to objects or followers, which are quite vulnerable to being destroyed or taken, something you cannot do with the quest rewards. This makes them into very powerful and very secure "safety nets".

I agree on that. The game have got a whole new and very important dimension with the quest rewards. Now quests is in most cases something you would be willing to take.

Has somebody use the Chivalric Knight already in their games?

How does it feel to help your opponent in battles?preocupado.gif

The Chivalric knight get the quest rewards, but your opponent earns the trophies, that you need to level yourself up...

I think that if you use it too much, you are falling behind with trophies..

Usually we don't help - we only use that power when the opponent is already an overwhelming favourite. With the abundance of low strength/craft enemies, this comes up frequently from mid-game on.

Imagine playing Chivalric Knight when your opponent is the Assassin!

If i don't help my opponent, why should i play then with the chivalric knight..

So you should help him around mid game, when he can easily kill the enemy's?

I think you should use it in the beginning of the game, to make full use of the warlock quest cards. Maybe he can get a mule, or horse and cart earlier in the game, or increase his statistics..

In my games sometimes we are helping our opponenst. Casting healing, when someone has 1 life left, and we want to discard Healing, or not killing 1 life left Character, when we have an occasion to do so. We are playing rather friendly games, and fights Character vs Character are very and very rare.

I will never help my opponent, and in our games, character vs character is also very rare.

If i use the Chivalric Knight, then i will only help my opponent if he draw low strength enemies.

If he draw high strenght enemies, then i will let him diedemonio.gif

Getting a quest reward for a low strength enemie seems like a good trade to me.

The only drawback is that he must miss a turn..

We'll you should play the CK because you draw him!

And yes, if you wait till your opponent can easily deafeat his enemies, you can "help" him with ou really helping, essentially helping yourself. Do this whenever there is opportunity, but that happens more form midgame on.

FTFY gui%C3%B1o.gif . Vanilla, non-alternative is single random. IMO the only way to go.

Yeah oke... it's a alternative rule, but it is written in the rulebooklengua.gif

So it is allowed to do thatgui%C3%B1o.gif

This is exactly why I prefer to draw just one character - why should anybody play the weaker ones? (Not that I agree CK is among the weaker characters). What's the point of having forty characters if only the top twenty or twenty five see regular play?

To each their own though - that's why games have official optional rules.

It is possible that you draw 3 weak characters, then you have no choice.

FFG is also adding weaker characters to the mix, as you can see in Sacred Pool.

I like this optional rule to draw 3 characters, choose one of themhappy.gif

There must be a way to use the full power of the Chivalric Knight. And the best situation for me, is waiting until he draw a low strength enemy.

Getting a quest reward for a strength 23 enemy, sounds fair to me, but i will not help him if he draw a dragondemonio.gif

We don't have polish Sacred Pool yet, so I did not have a chance to play chivalric knight. I find this character to be very interesting. First of all, he starts in middle region so in the beginning of the game, he can start abusing templedraw3, draw2 spaces. When other players are getting stronger, he may descend to other regionsstart "helping" other characters even if they do not need help (For example other player with 6 str faces 2 str enemy). Once the midgame starts, chivalric knight will start helping other characters a lot.

And he has a horse. Months ago I was underestimating it, but now I feel this is valuable follower"helping" ability benefits from having a horse.

I think that i will not stay very long in the middle region.

Only dead will await you there, unless you have a water bottle.

I once play with the warlock,i tried to stay in the middle region. He was almost dead, and was running as fast as he can to a healing spot such as the village

The Chivalric Knight must be in the same region as the other characters if he want to help them, so i would go to the outer region soon enoughhappy.gif

Well, we had many games with warlock spending entire game in middle regionNOT losing a single life. Maybe sacred poolfuture expansions will make this region harder

It was when frostmarch came out, so there was no sacred pool yet.

I think you was just lucky.

Those runes spaces makes it also very difficult for the Warlock. All those enemies are +2 in battle

But it also depends which spells he has.

But i must say that he became very strong there, even if he was 2 times close to death.

I came back to the middle region, after healing a bit in the outer region

It also depends of what Quests You will get from your alter ego. If easy to complete, You may be able to get a little stronger than the rest of players. Not to mention that now instead of Caravan of Mules, single Sword and Amrour, he may get Rewards that are a bit stronger than Purchase Deck. With them he may survive in Middle Region a little longer.
