Future of Arkham Horror Line Predictions?

By Curator, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

What new roleplaying features could be added to this game. I love the variants that take a simple mechanic and make it more story based.

Epic Battle to replace the repetitive and stagnant end game.

Injury/Madness to replace just going insane or wounded.

Personality cards to make each character feel unique with more than abilities and stats.

Relationship cards tie in the fact that all these investigators are in Arkham for a reason.

They really went all out in this last expansion. If the big boxes are done then I personally think that the next expansion will be Mountains of Madness, with a traitor like mechanic added to the game. But that would make it a niche expack. So, what non player vs player features could they add to the expansion?

Do you see more monsters coming (I don't).

Do you think a small expansion may include more ancient ones and any components required for their special style of play? (I could see this based off of the demand for the Story Pack of Call of Cthulhu cards that adds many Ancient Ones.)

Do you think adding a traitor/betrayer mechanic is a good thing for this already challenging game? (I feel a company has to be careful not to make traitor rules too complex.Pandemic and Lord of the Rings board game are good examples of over doing the traitor mechanic).

It's funny because I am usually really good at coming up with a ton of variants and ideas...but now this game is closing that door.

I do think those saying that FFG will continue to make expansions as long as they turn profit need to keep in mind. Having a shelf full of boxes and expansions for a game can be imposing for a new player or a potential customer, because they see everything and count up the total amount they would need to drop on the series of product. Another thing people are ignoring is the fact that FFG has to reprint these games.

If you make too many then the earlier ones will start to become a retired product because most people have them, so fewer would be available or printed for new people trying to find them.

I am sure FFG is aware of this and that is why I predict the next expansion will be the wrap up.

New Ancient Ones and a traitor mechanic. Some people bought Kingsport just for epic battle cards and new AOs, so I don't think they would have a problem buying a small box expansion with 5 more ancient ones plus the components for their game mechanics and epic battle cards. The traitor mechanic will have something to do with a herald that is taking over the investigators (I haven't played the game, but I think Battle Star does something like this).

Obviously new locations, mythos, and outer world cards will be included. MAYBE new items.

I think Join the Winning Team is enough "traitor" for Arkham. I would personally never wish for anything to interfere with the Co-op nature of AH. Win together, die together.

Do you see more monsters coming (I don't).

I could stand to see some more Spawn monsters related to Ancient Ones or Heralds, or even just new mechanics. But probably nothing more added to the perilously balanced Cup.

It would have to be a slightly bigger box. gran_risa.gif But I was always thinking that the small boxes would enhance the existing AOs, rather than add more. I still want a Yig and Ithaqua box.

Again, no. Not here. With Betrayal at House on the Hill being rereleased, as well as Battlestar Galactica, if someone wants a traitor mechanic, they can play something else.

I think that if there was a traitor variant that was tied to a herald, that would be a fun alternative game.

I always love monsters. A few interesting ones would never hurt. And of course, spawns :')

I would think it neat if they made medium box expansions (instead of having an expansion with a double board, having a single board). That way they could have larger components in two sets (without making the over-all play area too much more jumbo sized. Alternatively, a half sized board would be acceptable too :') add a little space, maybe three or four locations.

I like Nyarlathotep's "Join Me!" At least, I suspect I'd like it if it ever came up.

I'd like to see more tricky monsters, like Color Out of Space or Shadowy Figure, rather than more monsters with inflated stats.

I always thought it would be an intertesting idea to have a herald that included a location on it.

Don't forget that at the Arkham Nights event they will be handing out a new herald and ancient one I think.

For those of us who are unable to attend Arkham Nights, will we be able to obtain the herald and AO later?

I am sure someone will upload it. If not here, on some other board game forum

the way to go now is SCENARIO expansions

scenario cards with tailored components including, or a campaign comprising 3 or 4 scenarios + rules

set up rules: which ancient ones, heralds and gardians, and a choice of investigators. deck components etc

new versions of existing investigators ie Harvey walters: Antartica expidition member, AO's heralds and guardians

new counters tailored to the scenario, new monsters and named cultists and special cards.

Is it just me, or does that top figure look like the Maniac model?

"But by God, Eliot, it was a photograph from life!"

Actually the top picture looks a bit like a tall pop-era Ringo Starr with sexy legs.
