Three solo plays, three Union Victories

By guest530780, in Tannhauser

Got TH out on a snowbound weekend. With no one about (Christmas shopping and all that), I did three solo games -- and the Union won all three! Never had that much success with the Union, either solo or face-to-face. It helped that the first game I pretty much forgot all the special token abilities. But the 2nd and 3rd time both sides were being played to the optimum of my ability.

The Reich was on the verge of winning the third game when Von Heizinger was on the verge of completing the main objective in the basement while Eva had just moved next to the Reich's final secondary objective.. But John MacNeal, the last character to go in the turn, auto-killed Von Heizinger with his flash gun then moved in range of Fraulein Kramer. Next turn, the Union won the initiative roll...MacNeal goes first, fires on Eva...another auto-kill!

Ozo had shrugged off two seeming auto-kill shots earlier in the game, but now that he had lost his main allies, he was quickly overwhelmed.

Though the solo outing was fun, I still won't get this out too much until FFG gets some of the long-overdue stuff out -- namely, a new map or two to play on.

I ended up playing Solo on my last few outings of Tannhauser.

Do you do anything special to play solo?

I just play both sides, using the best of my ability.....it's not quite as fun as an opponent, but still can make for an interesting game.

I played 3 games this past sat.

the last 2 I played as Union and murdered the reich, MacNeal is a brute with his .45

I too just play both sides to the best of my ability when I play solo. Don't believe I've seen any solo variants for TH. If there were more models involved in the game, coming up with an AI to play one side would likely be necessary, however.

Playing solo, I play story mode and set up a good scenario in my head before I start so I can more easily "sit back" and watch the scenario unfold as I play.

I actually enjoy playing games for the 'story' as opposed to who wins and loses....I'll have to try more solo story mode, that actually sounds pretty fun. All my games have just been deathmatch.

Thx guys for this post, I actually have not thought to play this alone, but now I for sure will.

Yes this is a good idea. We just need to think up some gameplay type that only needs 1 player at most. Perhaps a zombie mode. Where you have an objective and if you move within a certain amount of spaces near a zombie they will take the shortest routes to get to you and attack until they're dead or something of that matter. Afterall it could work well with the U-Chronic setting. Undead and Nazi's always work well together. Just a thought for starters at least, I'm sure we can do better though or build uppon something.
