Thoughts on Freebooter Campaign

By Plaxor, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

So I am a long time Battlefleet Gothic player, and have played an Ork pirate fleet, I enjoy the fluff behind the freebooters and am excited for the upcoming rules for them.

Anyways, I am considering running either a Ork pirate campaign, or a wolf pack type pirate game (where players could play orks, kroot or human).

Unfortunately from what I have heard there aren't as many class choices for Orks as I would like, I was hoping for at-least Mad-doc, but fortunately enough there is mechboy.

Thoughts?

Well... the basic origin options of the Ork Freebooter rules (mentioned in my designer diary on the Orks a while ago) cover the bases of Klan and innate knowledge to a limited degree. The Mek and Kommando alternate ranks expand upon that and present different directions for character development based on the main Freebooter career path. Being relatively small compared to a full career path, those alternate ranks can serve as an example of what a Painboy/Mad Doc, Runtherd or Weirdboy alternate rank might look like. I can't go into any more detail until the book's out, I'm afraid, but once I can talk more freely about it, I'll try to post up a few more detailed suggestions and options.

It shouldn't be too hard to create alternate careers for orks. The base freebooter career could be kept as-is, or modified to kaptain, the ork equilivent of a RT. Mad doc, mekboy, kommando, speed freak, flash git, runt herder, and stormboy should all be fairly easy to create full careers for, which would give plenty of options for a diverse party of orks.

It is clear from the info we have that the ork freebooter, as it will be in Into the Storm, is not intended to fill a paty, but it could with some effort.

It is? The guy that wrote that section (N0-1_H3r3) just seemed to say different (with the number of alternate ranks there are for the Ork Freebootas in Into the Storm). From my own experience with the book, you could fairly easily have a full party of Orks.
