A little fuzzy on how to represent the FS Mission Objectives

By keltheos, in Deathwatch

So in your sessions did you just tell the players what they had to achieve, hand them some sort of brief, have the assassin break it down for them, or did they have to figure things out as they went along?

Just curious. I'm running this tonight and haven't decided the smoothest way to do so. For a demo, I figure just telling everyone is enough, but in a campaign I can see doling the information out on a need to know basis with some objectives revealing new ones with big yellow exclamation points over the NPC's heads. ;)

This scenario is a bit different in that the mission isn't a well thought out, planned affair. The marines arrive and get into the stuff really abruptly. So to preserve the feeling of confusion, mystery and action, I ran them through the first battle, and then had Syndalla explain the two major objectives to the team.

I think that perhaps a small, portable white board would be nice to have, to clearly outline the Mission Objectives as they appear. Of course they won't learn about killing pant-stealers as objectives until they are revealed at the end of Act 1. So this creates a visual reminder to everyone of the goals they are trying to achieve.

Cool, that's sort of how I was thinking of doing it.

I'm using some of those blank dataslate docs from the DH forumites and going to a few lines so I can hand the party them as we play.

They are marines. they have data slates. have the assassin upload her information to them in a "priority" scheem and then let them decide what is most important. our group completed a 1st and 2nd each time we played due to placement on our map the gm provided. so its all about how much immersion you want for your players.

Except that they were requested for the express purpose of helping exterminate a genestealer infestation. The overview for Part I: Baptism of Fire on page 22 says as much. So, the battle-brothers should be aware that there are genestealers somewhere in Lordsholm to contend with. As to the when and where, yeah, that can be kept vague.
