Faction Balance Question

By Ser Jorah, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Hey all,

Got into the game with some friends at Gencon last year but didn't invest much after that. Now we are looking to get into the game full swing. My question to the greater community is this:

After reviewing the various expansion sets for the game to date, is Order not as fleshed out as Destruction?

I've seen only a handful of neutral Order cards where as the Skaven are plentiful and destruction only. I know the Lizard men coming soon are Order only, but then the Vampires are Destruction only. What am I missing here that balances the two sides? Did order get specific cards linked to specific armies (ie are there now more dwarf cards than chaos or something like that)?

In general I'd love a brief answer to the above question and a comment or two regarding the games overall balance. My group and I are pretty completeist. Each man has three core sets and when we get into the expansions we'll most likely have triple of all cards (go FFG for switching it up to one pack=3x each card!). We are also experienced ccg players along with years of boardgaming under our belts. So please comment away and thank you all in advance.

Order in general has a weak card pool, particularly empire and high elves. But order also has the two best decks in the format in bolt thrower and dwarves. So basically, the cards are there to make a couple of very high-powered (but also skill-intensive) decks, but the quality drops off considerably even a few cards past the 50 that comprise the tuned thrower and dwarf lists. From a deckbuilding pov, you will find many more interesting interactions when designing destruction decks, and have to slog through a lot of garbage to find the tuned dwarf or thrower ones.

Eh. Destruction generally takes better advantage of the base game mechanics and objective than Order. Destruction is more aggressive, Order, more defensive. A good many of the neutral cards tend to favor Destruction over Order. I'm not going to say that Destruction is better, It just takes a little less thought building a powerful deck, in my opinion.

Ok. I won a game in three turns with an orc deck today. Single set. Geez. Orcs can do it in two with a god-draw.

yep. One time my opponent dropped spider riders and two choppas on the first turn. I gave him the game and went ahead and started our next one. No sense in playing that out and wasting time on it.
