Ideas for inserting The Calixis Sector's most wanted into the Haarlock Trilogy

By Baldrick, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

I'm wanting to give some my players some subplots/action throughout the main Haarlock Trilogy. I'd like to give them an oppotunity to bring in and/or deal with some of the sectors most wanted javascript:void(0);/*1279206383894*/ (Yes I know Lottie is a bit much for them)

Any advice on how to add some of these villans into the campaign? I'd like to have one on Quaddis & one on Sinophia...

!SPOIL-O-RAMA for the Triology!

Ferran Ghast was described as an ex-Acolyth and now a head of heretical organization involving top notch infiltraitors and assasine. Those might be present in "House of Dust and Ash" and thereby he might be personally leading a cell on Sinophia. Just switch the alliance of "Spectre Cell 17" and add Ferran with any skill you deem valid.

Myrchella Sinderfell could be encountered in the red cages. Simply write scene where the pc visit some really grisly, depraved and bloody arena event in the Red Cages. Perhaps they stumble on a fight pitting a captured female dark eldar against a score of gladiators. Myrchella would have "returned" for the show... and could well be with the "Beloved One". Not as part of the blood, just to wittnes some of it for having the deligt of sponsoring it. She would thereby be present (under disguise) at Gabriel Chase... with good bodyguard and arcane psy dampers to be able to leave the party before bad gets to worse gets to !NIGHTMARE!

Magos Vathek could be in leage with a heretical sect of the monks leaving in and about the half sunken tombs in Sinophia Magna, going about his business As he learns the Inquisition is there, he sends some spies after them and perhaps later a kill-team of the undead. If the pc track him down (make this easy!) he curses them...and teleports away! While cursing, he is spitting about something of "stupid dogs, unable to follow the rigt trail" before a teleport takes him back to ship in orbit that will leave rapidly. The pc might try to follow, but it will be off. They will, however, quickly learn that the ship only appeared recently. Long-long after the murder series started.

Coriolanus Vestra could either follow things on his own accord or you could change the affilation of the abbot in D&A to him. He could have a re-appearance in "Dead Stars". Simply exchange Ghast Priestkiller for him! Before that, simply make him appear at Gabrial Chase for he wanted to wittness what will happen. Protected by some obscure arcana, of cause!

Tobias Belasco could be present within the turning hand. He is part of the "Iron" syndicate mentioned in the rumours and is in to buy slaves. Hundreds of them.

Sequence: The Vathek link

While the pc investigate and try to gather informations about the "strange occurances" they catch some rumours about the priest in the half sunken tombs in District X (see Sinophian Gazeteer). If they **** deeper they might learn that a group of off-worlders arrived just a view days ago. They delivered a lot of goods to some of the priests (Information can either be gained in the Turning Hand if they ask around for anything about District X, with the undertower/the sinks if they ask of recent irregularites or if the ask some of those running the barkes that transport goods along the rivers... hack, one of the bark operator guys from the opening scene could visit the pc since he heared the rumours and thought it could be helpful. "After all, you rescued my live and I do not like to be indeptend to off-worlders". Another option is a priest talking to the recluses priest in the District X. They won´t be very welcoming, but some of them might be willing to point fingers at the more heretical elements within their sect (for reasons of their own).

The good have been brought to a huge building which can only be entreanced by climbing, having some-one operating the old freight crane ontop (load carry and kind of "person elevating plattform" or by finding an entry underwater.

Inside, they will be run into the heretical monks (use cult fanatic stats) who are "Reserectionnists" and got contacted by Vathke who wanted to "Work with them". Deeper inside, some risen dead might be encounted, but make them view and much different to the "walking dead". Vathek will, after brief battle, teleport back to safety of a ship and will disappear. And it was NOT the ship he arrived with. He is to clever for such a mistake.

Et violá! A lose end your players can pick up later.

Running the game in the District X forma warehouse and now mausoleum.

Getting in is an act of search & swim or climbing. If stealth is not cared for, the mad monks will barricade inside and fight to the death and Valthek will be able to create some more undead in a haste.

A lot of walls have been added and the place is a damp, ill-lighted mace ripe with mildew, rot and corpses in the cellar. Perception is need to hear the monks who are silent by nature as they come around the corner. Intelligence is need to go the direction one wants to go (the maze was created to disencourage grave robbers and the monks are armed for the same reaons..and because they are heretics!). Silent Move is in order as well. The area Valthek is working in is in the center in the third of five levels of the building. The entrance is hidden and the pc will need search tests.

Thanks Gregorius! Great ideas. I was having a real mental block. Will let you know how I introduce them... aplauso.gif

Great ideas by Gregorius (as always). He should take care that his brain is not eaten by a Slaught someday...

In my campaign I inserted Tobias Belasco (under his pseudonym Byros Rawley) as a bidder at The House of Dust and Ash. He was there to acquire a Halo Device in the form of the Onyx Statute personally. His wheel-chair is of course equipped with a refractor field and a multi-laser though (and Vymer & Quill are after him).

Furthermore I also wanted to introduce Myrchella Synderfell somewhere on Quaddis in Tattered Fates (after all its where the Inquisition took note of her last).

Thanks for the flattery...but did it ever stroke your mind that I might be a Slaught and that I am using this forum to single out the most creative minds to eat them and use the creativity to just draw near more delicious brains? ;)

Well, anyway

Lady Sinderfell´s return to Quaddis
Myrchella returned since through her "court" she learned rumours of something to happen at Gabriel Chase and Quaddis as a whole and Omens of the Widower. She arrived under a guise and her courts is and out and about to find out something what is happening on their own. Of couse, she visited some rather exquisite events of the Beast House.

Make the pc have the encounter "The Bridle and The Lash" (p.22). If they follow the directions the slavers took (or take) the will find an entrance to an underground arena secured by two iron gates, forming a "lock" throug which creatures can be allowed into the arena. A simple panel (no test requiered) allows the gates to be opened so the pc can enter the dimished arena.

If they do so, they will be in for a hard time: five further "locks" lead into the arena, the luxorious seats are occupied by a bloodthirsty crowd and the master of ceremonies uses the master of controls to lower the gates for the arena once they are inside. In the center of the sparsely lit arena, surrounded by corpses of strange creatures, they see a pair of female human gladitores armed with lowered melee weapons. They have their weapons lowered, seem to be on the "same team" and are out of breath... unless the pc pass willpower(-10) test. In this case, they will identify the two surviving witchkin infiltrators for what they are (p. 59 DotdG). The witch-kin aren´t armed (part of the illusion they project into the subconcious) but their stats are +5 in every aspect (they are the toughest one arround).

If the pc beat them, the master of ceremony will release a murder gholam at them (p.90 DotdG but double the wounds) and call for the guards (slavers) to appear. The pc have five minutes before guards arrive, the gholam sports an unhealty number of eyes and long, leathery tentacles ending in spearpoint like elements so he can attack everybody that attacks him. After beating the beast (or while somebody distracts it) they can either try to squeeze through one of the gates (challenging extended Contortionist test. Pc is helplessly stuck till test is one), bind some tentacles together to form a rope and achor to leave the arena to seat area (the guest leave in panic!)or find some other way out. Anyway, Lady Sinderfell was present and watching. But the she and the majority of the other guests leave now through special emergency exits that seal shut behind them.

She will see the pc again, at the "Fate´s Wheel" where she and her entourage look for further amusement. Perhaps she will bit a fighter of hers against the pc (a servant to slaanesh. Use a cyborg gladiator, but as soon as he is lightly wounded, he gains +5 and +10 again if heavly wounded). As the pc win, she will leave. Grist well them call them in....

...as they visit the Spider Bride, they will meet her in the guardens, leaving from an audience. If the pc tell the Brider Directly what is up and help her, she will return the pc a favor..she will NOT do as paid by the "Red Lady". Otherwise (if the pc do not cooperate with her in the fullest) she will make one attempt at their lives, by one of her Snake Ladies. Like she was paid for by Myrchella. The assasine will have a letter with her ("If you read this, it means my servant failed. Do not worry. Only one attempt was paid, you have my word on it. Thanks again for serving me the head of one of my would-be-enemies.")

Later the adventure, she and an entourage will be present at "Gabrial Chase", wearing a fine eye mask. Still, the pc might recognize her. If they do not disguise, she will. And as soon as "it is on", another one or more of her flunkies will have an attempt at her live (use Red Jack Profiles, but with mono swords and hardened body armour). Or, if the pc are daunting, they might try to join forces with her. She will want to kill the widower and will want the face.

There are ample opportunities to include these villains in the Haarlock trilogy: bidders at the auction in the House of Dust and Ash, revellers on Quaddis in Tattered Fates, or citizens in Damned Cities. Only Mara will be a bit problematic ...
