Ive found some prepainted, nicely detailed, Tiger I 1/144th scale armor models made by Can Do Pocket Army. There also might be some PzKw-mk4 as well. Im ok with the vehicle and tank models in TOI but wish they were all the same scale. I like the larger scale tanks in the base set but they lack the detail of the1/144th models( especially in the tracks and roadwheel part.)
The smaller scale vehicles in the expansions have actually more detail than the base set but I think they are just too small relative to the infantry figures (which I think are close to 1/72 scale). So Im thinking that 1/144th might be a good scale for vehicles.
I was also thinking of combining the 1/144th scale vehicles with the smaller prepainted infantry figures from Axis and Allies Miniatures. The infantry figures could have adhesive magnetic strips added to their individual base and then grouped together on a larger magnetic base. Bases could be made using color copies of the board color green or desert so they match pretty close.
Finally, Im thinking of making color copies of the board hexes which have elevations and stacking them up in relief form like a topographical model. My only problem is what to do about woods hexes and buildings.
So, if anyone is into the miniatures aspect of this game any suggestions or other ideas are most appreciated. And if not, well, forgive an old wargamer for daydreaming.
