Stacking reinforcement cards and Combat discard pile

By Yamaeda, in StarCraft

Hiya!

Stacking reinforcement cards

So, i know very well i can only put 1 reinforcement card in a single skirmish. I can have 4 skirmishes however and each can hold a reinforcement card so max 4 in play.

According to Revealing Reinforcement cards (p30) the reinforcement cards stay in effect as long as it isn't discarded. According to Reinforcement cards special abilities (p31) it's not discarded as long as the icon fits. It also states that "for each reinforcement card that's been played ... the special ability of the reinforcement card is applied".

So, do these bonuses stack regardless? That's how i interpret it. Defending a terran base with 2 bunkers and a medic will yield ~15 hp marines in the last 2 skirmishes (if the attacker solves the fight in that order). Sure, not too easy to pull off, but still ...

Combat discard pile

According to a info blob on p32 "During battle, whenever Combat cards are discarded they should be placed face up beside the combat deck"

Does this apply to Step 9: Discard combat cards (to hand limit) also? It's not during a battle, or should they be discarded face down? And why isn't it explained on p16 where the Discard combat cards rules are written (or atleast a referrence to p32)? Why isn't the facing of Combat discard deck explained in the setup, nor the placing.

I love the game, but why rules are split in thrice without referrence in between is quite annoying.

Stacking reinforcement cards

You need to resolve each skirmish individually so that you can't stack bonuses from different skirmishes. Discarding the cards is a part of skirmish resolution. Only Splash Damage or Nuke can affect units from other skirmishes (because they are resolved during a further step of the battle).

Combat discard pile

It's not explained, but I quess it should work like discarding cards during battle - you have to show the others what you are discarding.

Are you quite sure about that? p32 "Discard any Combat Cards played to the resolved skirmish." Not all cards, or Combat and Reinforcement cards.

p31 "For each reinforcement card that has been played" definately refers to several. ;)

It seems very logical to discard them, but since the rules are written with a high focus on semantics are correct names this definatly leaves some room for interpretation.

Although, at p29 Prelude to Battle #3 and #6 you use the term Combat Cards as a general term for cards from the Combat Deck.

Yes, I am. Skirmishes are totally independent during their resolution. As you already noticed, reinforcement cards are also Combat cards.

7. Resolve Skirmishes
Skirmishes are resolved one at a time. The attacker chooses
which skirmish to resolve first. Once that skirmish is
resolved, he chooses which skirmish to resolve next, and so
on. This continues until all the skirmishes of the battle have
been resolved.
To resolve a skirmish, follow these steps:
A. Reveal cards
B. Compare attack and health values
C. Destroy units and discard cards

Thank you, i found it logical it should work like that but i needed some proof and food for discussion. :)

Since the rules are very good at using unique terms it's quite unlucky they use two meanings for Combat Cards. It'd be better if they (like in Step 7 you quoted) simply used Cards as general term, and in Step 3 said "Draw Cards from the Combat Deck."
