need clarification

By Envy5, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Ok so I have played three times now, and in those games there were two different ways. that the other world encounters went.

So my question is once your sucked in through a portal, and it is time for the other world encounters. is it encounter. next turn move and then your out and gate has been explored? or is it other world encounter, next turn movement then another encounter prior to exiting?

Always follow the turn phases.

Turn 1 Movement: Move to location with gate on it, evade/fight monsters if needed

Turn 1 Arkham encounters: Enter the other world's first area.

Turn 1 Other World encounters: Have an encounter in the other world

Turn 2 movement: Move from the first other world area to the second other world area

Turn 2 Other World encounters: Have an encounter in the other world

Turn 3 Movement: Move from the second other world area to any Arkham location with a gate to the other world you are in, and take an explored token.

Turn 3 Arkham encounters: Attempt to close (and seal) the gate

It will usually take 3 turns to move completely through an other world.

Thank you! this is what I thought we should be doing, Thanks for the help gran_risa.gif

Hello,

I had a few questions on this.

Is it also 3 turns if an investigator is in a location and then a gate appears? Or would that be 4 turns since they are delayed?

And if you are in the outer world and you go back to Arkham, but there is a monster in the location? Would you fight first and then close/seal the gate? Or can you close/seal the gate before you fight?

If you do fight before you seal the gate, what turn order is that considered? I maybe mixing up rules(very new to this) but I thought when you return from the other world then you do not have to fight any monsters at that location "for that turn".

Is evade an option? Could you evade the monster, then close/seal the gate? Or if you evade, do you have to leave the location before you close/seal the gate?

Thanks for any help,

If you are in an Arkham location and the result of your encounter is "a gate and a monster appear" then you're sucked through the gate and in the very same round, have an encounter in the first area of the OW you've been sucked in. So:

1st round - AE phase - gate appears / OW Encounter phase: first OW encounter

2nd round - you begin the round delayed, so no movement this round, just stand back up your investigator. OW encounter: you're still in the first area, and you draw an encounter (so, 2nd encounter)

3rd round - you can now move to the second OW area and have an encounter there (the third one!) during OW encounter phase

4th round - movement - you return to Arkham

Whenever you return to Arkham from an OW area, you receive a "free pass" to avoid monsters sitting on the gate, but this lasts only one round (so the round you return you have the free pass, then it's gone). So, if you return to Arkham during the movement phase, you can ignore the monsters on the gate and then trying to close / seal, but if you return to Arkham in a different phase (during OW encounters, for example, as a consequence of a benevolent card) and you can try to close / seal the gate during the next round... well, if there are monsters, in the moving phase opf the round following the one you returned to Arkham, you have to evade / fight them all

Thank you,

Good information.

But a question on the last sentence.

"well, if there are monsters, in the moving phase opf the round following the one you returned to Arkham, you have to evade / fight them all"

Can I evade and then try to close? Or would I have to defeat the monster to close it. I don't think I could evade a monster and then conduct a ritual to close a gate in the same area. I would think it has to be defeated (so it cant interfere with the closing ritual), but I am unsure about the ruling on this.

You can evade the monster(s) and still close the gate.

ok, got it.

Thanks for the clarification

Ok so.....I am in need of help with one more thing. If I seal a gate what happens to another player is in the same other world, and I seal the only gate of that other world location? Is he lost in time and space? I only ask as the rule book did not have an answer

The other player will be lost in time and space when they attempt to move from the second space of the other world back to arkham and no gate is available to exit through.
