Card Draw

By qwertyuiop, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

How many cards are you guys drawing, on average, per turn? I like how the number of cards a player is able to draw can change. How many cards do you players like to draw? Does it change based on faction/deck? I typically like to draw 2-4 depending on what stage of the game it is.

Honestly 2-3 card/turn is my average draw rate. imho a better question should be "against which type of deck do you like to draw more cards?".

That's a great point. I won't lie, I'm using this information to see if I can find a way to build a viable mill/discard deck. Right now I'm stuck mixing that strategy with other concepts. happy.gif

I agree with Kragg's point and I've to add a couple of things:

- with the current meta, I think NOONE can survive the "average" match drawin' less than 3 cards per turn. 2 cards is the "minimum".

Consider that especially in competitive play, you usually develop each turn (or so)...In that case, you'll need a solid card advantage in order to develop without troubles.

- About Mill decks...they're viable. Lots of matches ends up with "deck-end" (lots compared to other similar games, obviously). The most important things to have is a solid control and stallin' options. Noone can play well without a 2/3 cards average draw...

We used to testa a MONK mill deck and even if it suffers a bit with ruch decks (who doesn't?) it was incredibly competitive...When the Monk is out, you can mill something like 6/8 per turn and, adding "Infliltrate!" you'll get a lot of chances to close the deal in a moment...

- 2/3 cards are the average as I said...But in almost any game I've seen/played (at least in competitive environments) people tend to draw 4 and sometimes 5 per turn, in order to win quickly...With some hand control and patience, Mill deck can be a really viable option, especially against "Thrower" decks.

Show me a mill list that beats thrower please? (pm, post here, or if its deck creation link there would be great)

Also, using a rule like this for card draw isnt very helpful. One of the cool things about this game is the decisions you make in terms of where to invest resources vary SO much game to game and matchup to matchup. Even w/ the same Orc/Skaven list, and sometimes even vs. the same opponent, there will be games where I am drawing 6+ cards/turn, and there will be games where I am drawing 1 card/turn the whole way.

But on average, I'd say 2-4/turn seems about right, depending on the phase of the game.

Even If I knew it, I wouldn't show it :)

Just kiddin'...I'm not sayin' that mill decks beat Throwers. I said that Thrower decks need a good draw engine in order to pull out the stuff quickly...

And that that can be a help for it. Nothin' more. :)

Anyway, I'm not making any rules, nor I'm sayin' that this is law... :) I'm talkin' about "average draw"...It's just the "minimum" card draw you should keep goin' in order to stay in the game with the current meta. ;)

Cheers.

3-5 cards...every game. Depending on who I am playing determines whether it is 3,4, or 5.

I'll be ok with accepting a 2-3 average based on the number of views and the number of replies gui%C3%B1o.gif

I'm thinking that a strong mill deck needs to pay attention to and take advantage of the opposing player's deck depletion as much as it needs to be able to strip cards from the deck and neutralize the hand. One of my ideas doesn't work against bolt thrower, but once people start taking advantage of Night Runners to their fullest, I'll have a different problem. happy.gif

Thrower decks are badly over-rated, for one thing. But DB, answer me one quick question - what do you mean by "Monk"?? No clue what you're referring to and was wondering what you meant?

He means the skaven unit plague monk I believe.

Every time you use a spell you can discard up to 2 of the top cards of the opponents deck.

Having all the scouts lots of spells infiltrate and plague monk could prove to be a very frustrating deck to play against

Exactly. :)

As TJ said, I meant "Plague Monk". We tested a bunch of buildings with it and, sorrounded but some control, you can easily mill the oppo's deck in a few turns. I don't know if it's really competitive right now, but if the game will slow down a bit, we'll hear abou it ;)
