Beginner needs help to build DE deck!!

By player1643406, in Warhammer Invasion Deck Building

Hi everyone,

Recently i found out about this awesome game and i' m trying to make my first steps into deck building. I've been playing for less than 5 days and atm have bought Core, Ulthuan expansion and the 1st BP for corrupt circle. Also a friend of mine gave me a few DE and skaven cards which i'll list below :

3xGreyseer's Lair

3x Gutter Runners

3x Dark Riders

3xCold One Chariot

3x Call the Blood

3x Caught the Scent

3x Witch Hag's Curse

I was trying to make a deck of my own but so far i got pretty dissapointed with my tries (never played deck games before so it's kinda harsh to fully grab the logic of it). My main interest is making a control deck or control/aggro. So any ideas or guidelines on what cards or type of cards i should focus on?

Thanks a lot in advance gran_risa.gif

Hey, no sweat! Really, you've got a great setup here.

Looks like you've got the makings for a rush deck + hand destruction laid right out in front of you

Here's sort of a template you can use to start you out:

50 cards (more than this will slow your deck down, you'll have less of a chance of getting your key cards when you need them.

I think a pretty standard deck breakdown is half of your cards as units, and ideally 1/4 of your deck non power generating cards. (I.E. Tactics and stuff like attachments) I think you could get away with 1/3, but 1/4 is a pretty efficient deck.

Of those power generating cards, I would make at least 1/2 of them first turn playable, for an easy first few turns, and easy recovery after your opponent resets the board (cards like Troll Vomit, Flames of the Phoenix, Judgement of Verena, etc.) Though this is just my preference.

TL;DR version:
1/2 characters
1/4 power generating support
1/4 everything else

Units:

Walking Sacrifice x3
Dark Initiate x3
Vile Sorceress x3 (3 is key, photocopy if you have to, and don't tell your friend <_< )
Shades x3
Gutter Runners x3
Mortella x1
Cold One Chariots x3
Corsairs of Ghrond x2 (Worth playing if you have sacrifice effects I.E. Lash the prisoners, whip the slaves, otherwise I'd omit)
Cold One Riders x3
Lokhir Fellheart x1

Warpstone Excavation x3 (No reason not to play this in every deck, really. At least not yet.)
Contested Village x3
Har Ganath x2 (Control + recur Walking Sacrifice for a card each turn)
Cauldron of Blood x1 (3 is nice but 1 is fine)
Mind Killer x2 (Cheap early control)

Chillwind x3 (See Vile Sorceress)
Innovation x3 (Will make any deck that doesn't have it's developments all over the place more efficient. And is key for rush decks.
Lash the Prisoners x2 (Get cute with Walking Sacrifice or Corsairs of Ghrond. Whip the slaves is better though, if you can get the new BP. Run that in 3)

Night Raids x2 (When this gets off, hell breaks loose. You don't need 3.)

? x4 (Whatever you think is best. However, if you get whip the slaves, sub out the Lash the Prisoners x2 for WTS x3 and omit one of these)

-With this setup, your whole gameplan is hitting undefended zones. Even if you aren't doing a lot of damage, your cheap scouts will do well at emptying their hand.

-This deck also has 0 support control. This is because the deck is supposed to win or drop their hand down quickly. If your opponent gets a lot of support out in quest early, you will have a difficult time winning. If this becomes a problem, you can run cards like Burn it Down, or Pillage, but keep in mind this will slow your deck down. And conviniently, FFG has given you 1 of each. What a pal!

Later on, you could do something like this for your Skaven Subtheme:

Gutter Runners x3
Warpstone Cannon x3
Deathmaster Sknikt x1

Bathe in Blood x3

Ohhh, man, this would be a fun deck to play.

Good luck man, this game really is great once you get the hang of it.

Greets Kefka,

Just wanted to thank you for the helpful info and the nice deck you suggested. I tried it a bit with some friends and i liked it.

Hopefuly i'll soon be able to build my own deck :)

You might want to try Harpies if you have the space. They add discard insult to discard injury in the event your opponent beefs up his quest zone to counter your scouts. Also, the new BP.

I must say that DE are hard to master for a bigginer. It took me a little bit time to learn how to use them the right way. Sometime You just need to sacrifice Your units for a great effect. Especialy I recoment to have in Your deck the Epic Spell (even 3 of them if You can get). the DE Epic rocks and makes a masacre at the table (epceialy when You play with friend in a multipayer everyone for himself).

My advice use a lot of tactic and support cards, then there are units and at the end atachments.

So far using the deck Kefka suggested seems to work quite nice, having rush and control capabilities. What i'm looking forward to is getting the rest BPs, so i can enrich the deck and acquire some cards x3 instead of praying to get a single lucky draw on one card. The most important thing howerver, is the fact that since the 1st time i tried the DE deck, i was in love with it's mechanics, using a lot -hp actions/tactics and also sacrificing units to get benefits.

I'm about to take the plunge and buy this myself, and I was pretty interested in making a DE deck myself. Now I wont have to make a topic asking for help. cool.gif
