Playing one week & strange things happening

By Drakson, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

My wife & I have been playing Arkham Horror for one week ( 1st game over 3 days, next game only 21/2 hours). Anyway we starting noticed some strange stuff. We have lived in our townhouse over 2 years. We were walking around the complex and we saw 3 bats flying around. Have never seen them before and we walk almost every evening. Next day we were walking & 3 birds flew low overhead, we know our birds but could not tell what kind these were. Dark grey, flew kind of jerky like a seagull, I couldn't tell if it had feathers or not since it was evening, flying very slow and one was carrying a rat. OK so maybe that is not so weird. Next day my wife is sitting out on the patio and hears a noise in the tall flowers by the fence a few feet away. One of the small bats is living there now! Next day we walking across the road at a park and all of a sudden 20"s music started playing. I walked up to the PA system guy and he said that they was getting ready for an outside play of Shakespear. I said that is not Shakespear music (the actors were practicing for the show next evening) and he said he just felt like playing some 20's music. Wierd.

I left in my car a day later and guess what. Someone was moving in with one of the U-haul rentals and it had a Big Squid on the side of it. My wife and I just looked at each other and laughed. Today she asked me I wonder what Arkham Horror thing will happen today. I said it happened late last night. I was looking over the rules at this site for the Dunwich Horror and saw the Ancient One called Shudde M'ell. She started laughing and said "We got to get that expansion". My real first name is Mel.

Sounds like you need to check out:

http://www.bloopwatch.org/

If not familiar with it: The mission of that site is to document ways in which Lovecraft's writings intersect, or seem to intersect, reality.

You need to get Dunwich Horror expansion anyway, because it is awesome.

Please, Drakson, we know sometimes strange things start happening in everyone's life, after we discover different realities lie beyond thin veils of energy. We know the more we discover about the real substance this world is made of, the more we feel aware of living in a world that is not as safe as we once believed. But remember: do not go to the local hospital, saying you will pay two bucks if they give you the four heart you need. It's not that wise

(sorry, can't resist the tentation ::obviously joking::)

I sure learned THAT the hard way

So long as we're telling stories of odd things I may as well share what happened to me today here.

For my job I go to farms to do surveys, often this takes me to the middle of nowhere. Today I arrived at a farm that appeared to be abandoned. It's not unusual for me to show up places to find no one there but this place had tractors and equipment out in the fields and weeds growing up around some like it had been abandoned in the middle of a work day just a week or so ago. I called their listed phone number and it had been disconnected. As I looked around I found a tiny little well kept garden in the middle of the growing weeds, which is in itself a little odd since there was no residence on this farm, also I could see signs of animals having been sleeping in the fields. As I walked along the edge of a field and a wooded area it became clear that something in the woods was matching pace with me, I could hear it. Now I know that it was likely a deer, or perhaps something a little more rare and dangerous like a cougar, but I also know that it would be unlikely for a deer to follow me or for me to hear a cougar if it were stalking me....so I got the hell out of there.

This is by far not the weirdest day I've had with this job.

You should never go to the Whateley´s Farm! At least seven other reporters mysteriously disappeared after hearing loud, crushing steps. No bodies were found, altough some large, circular shapes were visible on the ground. If it wasn´t so incredible, I would say they even look like hoof marks.

Whatever haunts Sentinel Hill, it can´t be good...

Probably not a deer as they would most likely run away. Either something higher up in the foodchain wanting some fresh meat or could have been something with rabies wanting to attack. Pretty wierd either way.

I now have all 3 smaller bats living in the bush and fence area outside the patio. Now toads have shown up but that could be from playing Talisman and not related to Arkham Horrow at all. Who knows.

Have you checked the boxes your games came in for any sort of strange carvings? Things that don't look stock?

Did you happen to read the short story "the lurker at the threshold" ? Frogs and toads are important part of the plot. Do they start chanting when you come to your house ? And there is a giant bat too in the story... happy.gif

If whippoorwills move in I suggest moving out.
