Narrow Sea and "They shall not cross"

By Castorp, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi,

many new players in the city had the idea to save the "Narrow Sea" with the card "They shall not cross", somehow I was uneasy with it. As the discard is part of a cost. On the other hand, there was no "Cannot be saved."

What's the deal?

You're right, it is part of the cost, so if the cost never happens then niether does the effect. So if they do save the Narrow Sea, they don't get the cost reduction.

It is said this way:

- If something is "saved," it is never actually killed, discarded, etc.

- Therefore, if you discard a Sea for cost and save it, you never actually discard it.

- Therefore, if you never actually discard it, you never actually pay the cost.

- Therefore, if you never actually paid the cost, you the effect was never actually initiated.

- Therefore, if the effect was never actually initiated, it cannot resolve.

Yeah, you would really only want to do that if you wanted 2 more STR on one of your Stark characters. In general, I find the event rather lame, lol.
