Rules from Sea of Blood in Road to Legend?

By MiB1975, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi,

has there been an official clarification ob whether any rules defined in Sea of Blood are aplicable to Road to Legend as well?

Specifically:

Use of Feat cards:

I see no reason why not to transfer this 1 to 1 to RtL

Nerfed Secret master Training:

Do you still use the +2 Fatigue from RtL or use the +1 from SoB now? Its a difficul one, because +2 may deserve a nerf, but some other things helping the heroes don't exist in RtL (e.g. Treasure maps)

Divine Intervention:

A very nice rule, which I see no reason why it shouldn't be used in RtL, it also benefits both sides in the game

Moveable Homeport /"Hometown":

Would be nice, but probably should not transfer to RtL, Talamir is probably going to remain the base.

What do you think?

There is no need for official clarification and it is very unlikely that there ever will be such an official clarification. The rules for SoB are rules for SoB and the rules for RtL are rules for RtL. Rules for 'Advanced Campaigns' apply to both.

This business of porting rules from one to the other is just wishful thinking by some people. There is nothing to stop you doing so, but it is unlikely to ever be official. They have already had one significant opportunity to make it official with the last FAQ update (march 2010) and they didn't do so.

It is a lot more complex than you think as there are subtle but deep differences between the two games which would be impacted by the changing rules.
For example, it is now coming to light, it seems, that the RtL blitz tactic is not all that suitable in SoB, perhaps beyond the first 20-30 CT, because the map situation is significantly different and the heroes need to complete the entire campiagn much faster than they did in RtL.

Frankly, RtL is a tight, competitive game when played well, and doesn't need changes.

If you want to use Feat cards in RtL I don't see any reason why not to import the rules given in SoB. I've heard of some people using Divine Intervention in RtL to a reasonable degree of success, although I don't personally think it's a vital change. In particular the Feat card rules are fine to import, since they didn't exist at the time RtL was published. Unless you have a problem with one side or the other getting a substantial lead in CT I don't think there's much need for DI though.

I wouldn't be inclined to change the other things, like fatigue upgrades or making the home city movable. Having a fixed home city and +2 fatigue upgrades have never proven particularly unbalanced in our games of RtL, and if it ain't broke I don't see reason to fix it.

I also agree with Corbon that it's highly unlikely FFG will ever make an official announcement about what rules from SoB should be brought back to RtL. Mainly, I suspect, because that would require them to re-explain these rules in full for anybody who doesn't own SoB themselves.

Incidentally, the rules for Feat cards in RtL already exist and are the same as the rules for Feat cards in SoB. They are in the FAQ IIRC.
